Bob Marley died of lung cancer at 36 a quarter-century today. He was a unique voice in reggae and was a spokeman for the poor and oppressed everywhere. Get up and stand up for your rights - he would have wanted it that way. :(

I used to think Bob Marley's music was a little too "exotic" for my tastes, until I really heard his songs. They are powerful. I really like "Stand Up For Your Rights", "Song of Salvation", and I like HIS version of "I Shot the Sheriff", I could never stand Eric Clapton's version that I heard back when I was a kid. Marley's was more believable and didn't sound "poppy".
I have a feeling a certain occupant at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue probably didn't get into Marley. ;)

Clapton tried to do a faithful version of "I Shot the Sheriff" but thought the result was "too white." Then, of course, it became a hit.
Clapton did a better reggae version of Dlyan's"Knocking On haeven's Door, even though ther original Dylan song wasn't reggae.
