I was watching the episode "If I'm Elected" recently and noticed how Dwayne and his father dominated the entire episode. Fred Berry, Ernest Thomas and Danielle Spencer don't even appear in the episode. I think this was a possible backdoor pilot to spin-off Dwayne's character into his own show. What does everyone else think?

I don't think so only because Mama and Shirley were still seen in this episode. Now if only dwayne was shown and none of the other what's happening cast members then I would think it's a backdoor pilot

I think it is very possible, although, I'm sure we would've heard something about that by now.

...and the show would've flopped if that's what they were thinking.

I didn't like this episode AT all...
Not only was it boring and tasteless, but there was just not enough genuine humor involved in it.
:p

Raj and Rerun had walked off the set for more money and better working conditions. So Dwayne had to hold down the fort which makes this, in my opinion, the worst episode of Whats Happening.

That's interesting. So if Raj & Re-Run had to be written off, maybe the new focus of the show would be Dwayne & his father ?

The episode where Dwayne wants to quit school and become a Stadium vendor is worst!

Yep, and Danielle Spencer was also recovering from an accident so it gave her some time off. Redd Foxx walked off from Sanford and Son so you saw a heavy focus on Grady in his absence to keep a 'father-son' like relationship with Lamont. As we saw, Grady could not hold his own in a sitcom when given the opportunity.

That spinoff with dwayne and dad would have failed

You don't know that. I noticed in that episode they had Marvin and Diane featured more. If they would have taken the show in a different direction, bumped up Brian O'dell's role, threw in a Jackson, Debarge, Silvers, Gary Coleman or Kim Fields it would still have appealed to teenagers, African American more specifically.

The guy who played Dwayne's father annoyed me for some reason, Even when he played on the Jeffersons and sanford and son
