i think BECAUSE OF THE FACT no wife was mentioned, it was easy to write in the script abt him "being caught with another woman." Had they mentioned him as single in the beginning, then they wouldn't be able to use that "cheating" in the storyline. Better for the writers to not have mentioned a lot of his personal life in the beginning.
