This year has sucked big time for our family and animals...

For those that don't know, I lost my dog in January to heart failure after a long hard fight with kidney failure. Well, for the past few weeks I have been treating my cat for what we thought was just a little anemia. Well, it turns out thats not all. I took my cat into the vet last Thursday (5-4-06) to rerun her blood work and it turns out her BUN and CREA numbers went up. Those are the numbers dealing with kidneys. A nomal BUN should not be over 34. My cat's BUN was 56.

So I have been psyching myself up for another battle of kidney failure. On Monday, I took my cat in for an ultra-sound so my vet could get a good look at her kidneys since he could feel they were abnormally shaped. We got the results today. It looks like my cat of 16 almost 17 years has cancer on her liver and kidneys. He is referring us to a specialist in San Antonio where we will go for a biopsy to see how bad it is. But with her age, there probably isn't much we can do. So anyway, I might not be around much for the next few weeks as I will probably be spending lots of time on the road going to the specialist for tests.

I'm so sorry to hear that. :( Losing a pet is horrible, and can even be like losing a family member. Especially when it's a pet you've had for so many years. I know my words can't make your cat better, but hopefully my prayers can. I will say a prayer for her tonight, and hopefully a miracle will occur. I think you being there for her, and loving her as you are, is the best medicine you can give her right now.

Very sad news, to lose two beloved pets in such a short period of time. I know how difficult it is to lose a pet, so my thoughts are certainly with you...

I'm sorry Dani. I give you and your family a lot of credit for having all these tests done and trying to save your cat's life. I know firsthand how expensive vet bills can be. Not everyone will or even can afford to to take that route.

Losing an animal that you've had for almost two decades is simply heartbreaking. It's one of the hardest things I've ever faced in my life, and I've faced more than most.

Good luck and please keep us posted.
