View Full Version : Jack Lutter justins5256 05-08-2006, 08:43 PM I'm losing sleep over this. I've got to know what happened to this guy. Anyone? crystaldawn 05-08-2006, 09:12 PM I thought you found some Newsbank articles on him. justins5256 05-08-2006, 10:30 PM I thought you found some Newsbank articles on him. They ended some time in 1987. No updates after that, and no mention of arrest. DarkDante 05-08-2006, 11:31 PM Offhand just a thought - Justin, have you ever noticed that some of the specials were updated during rebroadcasts but these updates were not contained in the following specials. For instance the bank robbers were updated in a repeat of special #1 but not mentioned in special #2 George Marsh was apparently updated in a repeat of special #3 but not mentioned at a later date. Did you ever aquire an original broadcast of special #4? - Maybe that might have an update? I also wonder about the female thieves. I doubt that Jackie Edmunds idiot is still out there - she was wanted in five different states and also had the Secret Service after her. I wonder if her case was updated in a re-broadcast of special #2? justins5256 05-09-2006, 09:12 AM ^ I tend to think that if Lutter was ever caught it wasn't soon after, nor would his capture have been a result of the special. You have to remember that the concept of a reality based crime fighting TV show was pretty new in those days. A while back, I posted some articles regarding Jerry Strickland's apprehension, and most of them were quick to point out that he was apprehended as a direct result of the broadcast. Same deal with Burns and Weeks - in fact, most of the headlines read "TV show leads to fugitive's capture" or something along those lines. The fact that a television show was the direct cause of a fugitive's apprehension was news in those days, and the press was all over it. Yet, in Lutter's case, I could find no articles, immediately after the special aired or otherwise, indicating that he had been caught. Further, the papers of the day did mention that Lutter's story was going to be featured on Unsolved Mysteries, yet there were never any updates. My point is that there was a lot of press surrounding Lutter's plight, and the fact that his story was going to be on television. Those other cases - Burns, Strickland, and Weeks, were fairly high profile as well, and we heard what became of them. Didn't robbieasbury say that he had a rerun of special 3 and that none of the cases were updated except George Marsh? robbieasbury 05-09-2006, 02:01 PM The George Marsh case was the only Update in the repeat of special 3. They also had previews of upcoming UM specials in May 1988 narrated by the guy who does the disclaimer at the beginning and sometimes during commercial breaks. DarkDante 05-09-2006, 04:21 PM Okay but my question was possibly could have Lutter been updated on "special 4" but not re-broadcasted on "Lifetime"? - I doubt it but still its something to ponder. Also I wonder if there were any updates to the professional thieves case profiled on special #2. These could have possibly been updated on the re-broadcast of special #2. I also would bet anyone a doughnut that the Jon Yount case was updated possibly on the first regular run episode which featured Gail Delano among others. Has anyone ever managed to find a NBC version of this episode since "Lifetime" has never broadcasted that episode in full. justins5256 05-09-2006, 04:27 PM Okay but my question was possibly could have Lutter been updated on "special 4" but not re-broadcasted on "Lifetime"? - I doubt it but still its something to ponder. Okay, and again, I say it would have made headlines. I also would bet anyone a doughnut that the Jon Yount case was updated possibly on the first regular run episode which featured Gail Delano among others. Has anyone ever managed to find a NBC version of this episode since "Lifetime" has never broadcasted that episode in full. I believe that update originally aired on 10/12/88. DarkDante 05-09-2006, 04:52 PM You really don't have to get so nasty man. I'm sorry if I gave offense. justins5256 05-09-2006, 05:38 PM You really don't have to get so nasty man. I'm sorry if I gave offense. The reply wasn't nasty. I merely reiterated my point and answered your question about the airdate. justins5256 10-13-2008, 07:18 PM You really don't have to get so nasty man. I'm sorry if I gave offense. Yikes. Just re-reading some of my old posts and saw this. I apologize for coming off so rough there. I think there is an excellent chance that there could be an update on the original NBc version of the fourth special detailing the arrests of the Rolex Robbers. We now know that Lutter was apprehended in 2000 but charges dropped when the victims couldn't be found. |
