It's always sad when someone dies. RIP. Janice 05-07-2006, 07:48 PM Of course, the Titanic story is very sad. Yet, reading the story of this family posted here is so heartbreaking in itself. I have a great book on the Titanic disaster which profiles the actual people, families...their individual stories. I look at their pictures. Just so sad. EmoJoe 05-07-2006, 08:21 PM :( so sad... *Pleasant Tomorrow* 05-07-2006, 09:28 PM The story IS sad. How awful. RIP :( SBTB Geek 05-08-2006, 12:40 AM I wonder if this is how the media will be in 80 years regarding 9/11 survivors. PrettyinPink55 05-08-2006, 01:16 AM My Gosh! This is so sad! :( Fleet 05-08-2006, 02:23 AM Now there are only two left: Barbara Joyce West (b. May 24, 1911). Elizabeth Gladys Dean (b. Feb. 2, 1912). I Love Carol Burnett! 05-08-2006, 06:55 AM I wonder if this is how the media will be in 80 years regarding 9/11 survivors. I dont think so because the Titanic story, was more idk the word for it, but there were not enough lifeboats and the whole impact on the UNSINKABLE ship. But who knows what time holds? That sounds interesting. I can't ever imagine what those people went thru. How awful. It's a fantastic book. It's sort of a coffee table book. Loaded with pictures and so many individual stories. I see it's available on Amazon, but only used. I paid about $40 for it new when it came out 10 years ago. It's a must-have for anyone anyone interested in the Titanic. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/078688147X/ref=dp_pb_a/102-2615281-1276958?condition=all http://images.amazon.com/images/P/078688147X.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg gilligan fanatic 05-08-2006, 08:55 PM a fact I would like to point about the Titanic I find neat is this. Claim: At the moment the Titanic hit an iceberg in the north Atlantic, the silent version of the film The Poseidon Adventure was being screened aboard ship. Status: True. http://www.snopes.com/lost/poseidon.htm I would love to get a hold of the original 1911 Poseidon Adventure AllIWantIsYourClutch 05-08-2006, 08:59 PM a fact I would like to point about the Titanic I find neat is this. It's weird that they would even show a movie like that on a boat. That's like showing Final Destination or some other movie with a plane crash in it on an airplane. gilligan fanatic 05-08-2006, 09:01 PM That's crazy. I didn't realize that movie came out before the Titanic sunk. I have read the book and seen the 72 version dozens of times and the new remake comes out this week. Well I have known about the remake since 2004 and I have been going on an on about how I hate remakes and it ends up the 1972 version is a remake of a silent 1911 version. Bought it as soon as it was published and available. I also have Walter Lord's books "A Night to Remember," and "The Night Lives On" and about 6 other books on the Titanic. Here's another little known fact: There was a fire on board the Titanic the entire time it was at sea on its maiden voyage. It was a fire in one of the boilers- it wasn't supposed to be operating, but the captain figured it wasn't worth putting out. ryanconnell1213 05-21-2006, 05:26 PM ARE YOU A BIG FAN OF THE TITANIC Janice 05-21-2006, 05:29 PM ARE YOU A BIG FAN OF THE TITANIC WHO? Fleet 05-21-2006, 05:36 PM Me? Yes, I have read a lot about it and know much info. Like how many died (1,523), how long the ship was (882.5 feet), who the richest passenger was (John Jacob Astor, worth $100 million), the time the ship hit the iceberg (11:40 PM), the time it took the final plunge (2:20 AM), if Captain E.J. Smith was sighted after the sinking (yes, several witnesses said they saw him in the water near a lifeboat. He reportedly said, "Save yourself. Be British." He supposedly floated away from the lifeboat a few minutes later and became still- the freezing water, about 30 degrees, most likely causing unconsciousness). Even stranger was a book called "Futility" that came out in 1898 about a giant ship named Titan that hit an iceberg and sank with a loss of life almost identical to that of the Titanic, due to a lack of lifeboats!!! |
