View Full Version : Any other parents have kids that don't like sweets?
KissMyGrits 05-03-2006, 02:47 PM My son just turned 9 in March. He doesn't like chocolate. He hates twinkies. Won't even touch any kind of cake. About the only sweet thing he likes is an occasional gummi bear. He will only eat vanilla ice cream once in a blue moon. If he feels like it he will sometimes eat a cookie if there is no chocolate in it. For Easter he got peeps in his basket, ate one and threw the rest away!
On the other hand he loves fruit. Give him some watermelon or cantaloupe and he is as happy as a pig in mud. I think it is great that he prefers fruit to sweets.
My friend told me that he is strange. So, my question is: Are there any other kids out there that prefer fruits to candy and other sugary sweets?

I prefer fruit and veggies over candy. I do like candy but I'd rather eat healthy food. Maybe that's why I'm in the 33% who are not overweight.
Kazza 05-03-2006, 03:07 PM Nothing wrong with your son. Everyone is different. Your friend just might be shocked since having someone like that it's 1 in a million.
MsOrange 05-03-2006, 03:09 PM my cousin is a carott freak. He hates chocolate, but give him celery, carotts and some ranch dressing and he's as happy as can be. My boss's 4 and 2 year old sonw ill take grilled onions and just eat them over chocolate any day. I think it's good for kids to be like that, I sure wish I was when I was younger!
robyrob 05-03-2006, 03:19 PM i was pretty much the same way for the most part; i NEVER drank pop or ate chocolate, i was the only kid I knew that LOVED asparagus, beans and brussell sprouts - i do however like sours and jelly beans though.
swedeace 05-03-2006, 03:26 PM I know a couple (they're family friends of ours whom I have babysat) whose kids, ages 12 and 14, do NOT like cake or very many sweets (like chocolate) in general. For their birthdays, they always have a tray of jello in lieu of birthday cake.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 05-03-2006, 03:30 PM I always preferred other stuff over sweets myself. I really don't like cake and I'd rather eat the main meal than dessert. Candy is good, but I'm not like wicked crazy over it like some people. Even chocolate. Most girls go crazy over chocolate and I really don't. I mean, I like it, but I don't think it's the greatest thing ever.

Yeah, same here over the main entrée. I tend to enjoy the food much more than the sweets. There are times when I get a sweet tooth, but it's not almost never preferred over the solid food. Mmmmm....solid food....
I hear what you are saying over chocolate. I like chocolate, but I don't love chocolate. I crave it at times, but I can take it or leave it.

I'm the same way with chocolate. I hardly ever eat it unless I get a serious craving and that is only once every couple of months.
PZelda 05-03-2006, 03:50 PM I actually don't eat very many sweets. I rarely buy candy and I don't have very many flavors of ice cream that I actually like. For example...most brands of chocolate ice cream make me want to barf. The only kind of chocolate ice cream I actually like is at Coldstone, and I go there maybe 1x or 2x a year at most. I used to love cake as a kid. Now I can take it or leave it.
Now, salty foods...Mmmmmmm....Salt...
Ireneparalegal 05-03-2006, 04:18 PM My four year old son hates chocolate. He only likes lollipops and they have to be red ones. Whenever we take him to parties and they have a pinata, kids all around him are scramming for the candy, except him. When we go to the grocery store he always has to have an apple...ALWAYS. The people in the store are so nice because they say they never see kids eating fruit, just candy. One of the produce guys even peeled an orange for him one time. The checkers don't even charge me for the apple. I buy a big bag of apples so I guess they figure that one apple isn't going to kill them. He can eat up to six apples a day. He has never been constipated...LOL He also loves bananas and oranges.
Me!!! I have to have salt. I dread the day a doctor ever tells me CUT OUT THE SALT!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! gimme, gimme my salt!!!!!!!!!!
EmoJoe 05-03-2006, 04:55 PM i like chocolate, but i'm not like OGMGMMGM CHOCOLATE. and i'm not a big cake or pie fan either. i'd DEFINITLEY prefer the main course to the dessert. i like some cake, but not a lot.
Sterling Holobyte 05-03-2006, 05:08 PM I am proud to say that my 5 year old daughter regularly chooses apples, celery, and carrots over candy. She also prefers apple dippers over french fries in her Happy Meal whenever we go to Mcdonalds.:)
MsOrange 05-04-2006, 04:50 PM god, i am! I love Chocolate. Not so much bar choclate, but any kind of choclate dessert or cake, I love it. I'm craving some now! Don't get me wrong, I love my main course, but I can make myself sick off the desert!
