Brian Damage 05-02-2006, 11:06 AM I'm waiting... TVFactFan 05-02-2006, 04:28 PM I'm waiting... In all Honesty I haven;t seen enough eps to say why. I only seen season 1 and less than half of season 2 Ireneparalegal 05-02-2006, 04:38 PM Clevland Amory explained why-lol His review from 1976 was posted yesterday LOL...Solomon, the question was posted AT YOU...not anyone else. Why don't you explain YOUR VIEWS, not always run and use someone else's. I don't let no one else speak for me BUT ME.   I will tell you MY VIEWS BRIAN. Because not all families in that era were BRADY BUNCH, SYRUPY, HAPPY-GO-LUCKY FAMILIES. A lot of people were divorced and they could finally watch something that they could relate to. Just like Roseanne. People could relate to seeing two people who would never ever be seen as GORGEOUS, BEAUTIFUL, RICH, HAVE NO PROBLEMS, PERFECT CHILDREN, PERFECT HOUSE, etc...(Irene gags) we loved to see people that weren't FULL HOUSE, BRADY BUNCH, FAMILY TIES, ETC. We wanted to see REAL PEOPLE. My views were solely expressed in this post, no one else's views, nor were any articles shown here or duplicated in any way, shape or form... Mr. Television 05-02-2006, 04:41 PM Valerie Bertinelli was the reason I watched. TVFactFan 05-02-2006, 06:17 PM LOL...Solomon, the question was posted AT YOU...not anyone else. I watched the first 24 eps so far and I havent seen any TAKE OFF moments yet. Ireneparalegal 05-02-2006, 06:22 PM I watched the first 24 eps so far and I havent seen any TAKE OFF moments yet. That's your view, as a 30's single black man. Now, go back in time and talk to the millions of divorced mothers who identified with it. Obviously it was a hit. May not be for you, but you don't speak for no one but yourself. Also, Valerie was a young teen who grew into a beautiful adult and for that alone, young guys tuned in. Everyone has their reasons for watching a show, just because you don't see anything great abt it, doesn't take away it's status as a hit show with millions of fans. Maybe that's what it is, i'm not a divorced mother-LOL Brian Damage 05-02-2006, 07:46 PM Maybe that's what it is, i'm not a divorced mother-LOL Ah yes, but you have said several times on both the What's Happening board and Good Times board that audiences didn't want to see single parent sitcoms. You said that is why That's My Mama and What's Happening failed. Brian Damage 05-02-2006, 07:46 PM LOL...Solomon, the question was posted AT YOU...not anyone else. I agree, Julie is as real as it gets with teenagers. Brian Damage 05-02-2006, 07:53 PM I guess with all black shows it has to be EXTRA funny if that's the situation. Why just black shows? Ireneparalegal 05-02-2006, 07:57 PM I guess with all black shows it has to be EXTRA funny if that's the situation. that's an insult to black shows and the audience. Either a show is funny and has its merits or it's not. TVFactFan 05-02-2006, 08:01 PM that's an insult to black shows and the audience. Either a show is funny and has its merits or it's not. So I see you forgot that most of this country is made up of White Viewers. That's why I'm saying. Ireneparalegal 05-02-2006, 08:03 PM So I see you forgot that most of this country is made up of White Viewers. That's why I'm saying. says who???? TVFactFan 05-02-2006, 08:10 PM says who???? Come on Irene, are you kiddin me? Why do you think shows like Sanford Arms and Grady didn't last?-lol Ireneparalegal 05-02-2006, 08:14 PM Come on Irene, are you kiddin me? Why do you think shows like Sanford Arms and Grady didn't last?-lol Because those characters were great on their original shows, not as spin-offs. The spin-off concept doesn't always work. I just posted on the other thread look at Seinfeld: Kramer, Elaine and George. Each had their own shows and FLOPPED. They are all white. So was the majority of their audience. Flo from Alice. She was great on Alice as a co-star, not as a star on her own show. TVFactFan 05-02-2006, 08:30 PM Because those characters were great on their original shows, not as spin-offs. So was the majority of their audience. Flo from Alice. She was great on Alice as a co-star, not as a star on her own show. I refused to believe that. Brian Damage 05-07-2006, 02:55 PM I don't think it has anything to do with being black or white. TVFactFan 05-07-2006, 03:04 PM I don't think it has anything to do with being black or white. Sanford Arms and That's My Mama were shows with all black casts members that didn't appeal to white audiences and since white viewers make of most of the viewing population in America those two shows were axed. Brian Damage 05-11-2006, 12:15 PM But it had nothing to do with a single parent family as you claimed. Ireneparalegal 05-11-2006, 12:37 PM It still had nothing to do with race or skin color either. A character may be great on a hit show, but put them elsewhere and you and I know the chances of that spin-off being great are slim. Remember Florence's spin-off? Her character is great, but only on the Jeffersons. Her banter only worked well with George, without him, it was not the same. Kinda like the three stooges, you can't take one of them out and put them by themselves, they worked well as a group. I never stated it was due to color. You did Solomon. I tried to watch those shows, and I remember my brother even saying they were alright, but something was lacking. That's my mama was my fave. I enjoyed watching it. But overall, it lacked something and needed a little more pizzazz. Television back then was trying to make $$$ out of all black shows, thinking that any cast, any show of all black people would work. Black viewers have opinions too. I think the television executives seemed to think that the black audience would accept any all black show thrown at them. |
