View Full Version : Camera Shots of Sears Tower/Downtown Chicago would have worked better in......
TVFactFan 04-29-2006, 09:24 AM the Closing Credits instead of the Opening Credits because the Primary setting for this Comedy was in the Inner City Section and to see the
Sears Tower/Chicago Skyline just didn't fit in with the other camera shots of Chicago's Poor Section. I think the Sears Tower/Downtown Chicago should have been the last thing you seen in the CLOSING CREDITS to just remind viewers that the Show was based in Chicago. This kind of reminds me of seeing the Empire State Building as the First Camera Shot in the Maude Opening Credits-lol

Ok well the Chicago Skyline shouldn't have been in the opening credits-lol
Brian Damage 05-02-2006, 07:11 PM Why not? That way the tv audience knows right away where the setting of the show. I think it was fine the way they had it.

There wasn't a camera shot of DOWNTOWN Los Angeles on the opening credits of Sanford and Son. Now what do you say to that BRIAN???-lol

1. The environment was a more important backdrop to Good Times than it was for S & S.
2. For years, I didn't know where Watts was.

True. but I don't think Watts was an important factor overall, the junkyard was.

True, and plus the projects was one of the main characters on GT so why not show the happenings of the projects in the opening and closing credits.

I didn't say don't show the projects in the opening credits, I said they didn't need to show downtown chicago
Brian Damage 05-02-2006, 08:22 PM I didn't say don't show the projects in the opening credits, I said they didn't need to show downtown chicago
They didn't NEED to show the projects either, but it was nice that they did.

I think so, it gave the viewers and chance to see where the Evans' lived.

I agree, but Solomon said they didn't need to show downtown Chicago. They didn't need to, but I'm glad that they did. It gave the viewers an understanding that they were in Chicago.

Brian Damage 05-03-2006, 10:39 AM I still think it was fine the way it was.
everett552 05-03-2006, 12:23 PM But then that would have defeated the whole purpose. The show was based on a family living in the Cabrini Green Projects in Chicago. The John Hancock buillding which have the 2 antennas that you see in the opening credits of the show was Chicago's highest and famous skyscrapper at the time.Ok well the Chicago Skyline shouldn't have been in the opening credits-lol

I just think the John Hancock Building would have worked just fine in the closing credits. By the way, Has the John Hancock building changed?
everett552 05-04-2006, 12:35 PM Naw, it's still looks the same located on Michigan Avenue called the Magnificent Mile with all of the expensive stores located near by.I just think the John Hancock Building would have worked just fine in the closing credits. So you said the Sears Tower wasn't in Chi-Town until 1976? I swear I remember someone saying it was in the opening credits
Brieannas21 05-04-2006, 07:22 PM So you said the Sears Tower wasn't in Chi-Town until 1976? I swear I remember someone saying it was in the opening credits
It was built in 1976
everett552 05-09-2006, 11:17 AM Thank You!It was built in 1976
TVFactFan 05-09-2006, 08:33 PM Thank You!
Is the John Hancock Building the tall Round building? And I also have to watch Family Opening Credits to see if I can spot the buildings I saw in Good Times Opening
everett552 05-10-2006, 01:14 PM No. They only showed the side profile of the building in the opening credits. The building was sitting behind that landmark church. But it has two antennas erected on top of it, that's the John Hancock Building. It looks similar to the Sears Tower. Is the John Hancock Building the tall Round building? OH OK, that's the building I thought was the Sears Tower, the tall black Building you see when the little boy is riding on his bike. That's why I mentioned the Sears Tower

Bingo........ You've got it! :)
Tap Dancer 11-21-2013, 03:55 PM This is an old thread, but I've been wondering about the buildings for a couple of weeks... Which of the buildings in the opening credits are Cabrini Green? I tend to think it's the building we see as the kid on the bike turns the corner and then another shot of the tall building at the end of the opening credits (where the camera zooms in). Am I even close to being right? LOL

James28 11-21-2013, 04:07 PM Correction: Actually, the Sears Tower was built in 1974 (around the same time as GT's premiere) not 1976.

The Cabrini buildings are the ones you see last when all the kids are running at the end of the opening credits

Should have added that several architecture-related sites out there will prove it.

Okay, but don't be rude, please, or act like that person who keeps getting Kirk Cameron's birthdate wrong. We do not want to have any conflicts here over technical errors, now. This goes for all the other posters in this thread, too.
