View Full Version : Should S/D Have Ended Up Together?
macaroni1213 04-22-2006, 03:56 AM I apologize if this has been posted before, but I went back a couple pages and didn't see anything.
I just watched the series finale on Cheers for the first time (I'm fairly new to the show), and though I do think the last scenes were very, very well done, I can't help but feel as a massive S/D fan that they reconstructed this romance very poorly, and that something huge was missing when the show ended. Do you agree? Or do you like how they left it?
Scoobiedoo30 04-22-2006, 10:30 AM Yes I think S/D should have ended up Together
Brian Damage 04-22-2006, 10:34 AM Heck yes, they definitely should have ended up together. I was so upset when they split apart.
Mikado 04-22-2006, 02:21 PM I voted yes cause ive always thought it was the ultimate ending for this series, though, I can understand how the producers felt that it wouldnt be likely that two people apart for so long would get back together out of the blue....Still, somehow, Sam never really fell in love again in the series, so, maybe they could have written in that HE had been waiting for HER, and worked it out. ( As i recall it, TV guide did a poll near the end of Cheers and people { like me } whod been fans from day one, wanted D&S to end up together; the people who came in after Cheers hit #1 were against the idea...apparently the most loyal fans lost the arguement!! )
One thing is sure, that terrible " Sam's real love is the bar/what is the true meaning of life?" Cheers finale was not only a total anti-climax to a great series, but a total downer!!!!! ( ugh )
CarJackSnyder 04-26-2006, 08:03 PM Yes, I think they should have ended up together
slackermonkey 05-03-2006, 07:06 PM No. They had great chemistry and were fun as hell to watch, but they didn't work together.
DianeChambers87 05-05-2006, 10:07 PM yes:wave:
Janice 05-14-2006, 01:27 AM Sam and Diane so belonged together. I always felt cheated that they didn't end up together.
tiff7 05-29-2006, 03:58 PM God Bless our troops is right! Happy Memorial Day y'all! :) Sam & Diane belong together! Watch season 2 & tell me every time they are alone together that they don't wanna be away from each other. (that sounds like a song, doesn't it?) :))

Brittney075 05-30-2006, 09:33 PM Of COURSE they should've ended up together. but don't you wish that he would've just STAYED on that plane on the finale?! jeeze. :(
Central Perk 06-04-2006, 04:52 PM No, they would not have been able to sustain a relationship. I used to want them to end up together, but I'm glad the show ended the way it did.
SpunkiiMonkii7078 06-08-2006, 03:38 PM I believe that Sam and Diane are soulmates. The thing is, they are two totally and completley different people and having a relationship like that would be hard. Besides the fact they live on complete different sides of the USA.
I can understand why Sam and Diane didn't stay together in the finale. I think if they would have put aside their differences though, everything for them would have worked out fine.

ThomasE 06-11-2006, 10:46 PM I wanted them to end up together but alas, it was too little, too late. They had great chemistry. They were the core of the show. They moved in different paths in their lives. They did rock the house when they were on screen together.
chipsaugratin 11-06-2006, 04:44 PM No. They were incredibly drawn to each other, but completely incompatible. Their relationship ended as it should have ended- with 1 last, failed attempt that just confirmed the futility. And "Cheers" ended as it should have - with a marvelous, instant-classic of a series finale
BensonFan 11-07-2006, 10:09 AM No. They had great chemistry and were fun as hell to watch, but they didn't work together.
Exactly....you need more to make it than just sexual chemistry. :o
jnail15 03-20-2007, 11:58 PM No I don't think that Sam and Diane should have ended up together. I thought that the way the show ended was just about perfect. Sam realized that the love of his life was his bar and the people that came in everyday. And I enjoy the uncertainness (don't know if that is a word) of what happens after the last episode. I like to think that Sam meets a special woman and settles down. But I think it was good of the writers to let the audience use their imaginations as to where Sam was going to go. But it was important to Sam that he stay with his bar, and that would be incompatible with sustaining a relationship with Diane.
