On many shows, Fonzie was seen with a silver or gray colored Triumph motorcycle. Does anyone have any information on that bike?
I would like to know the year, size, model, and what modifications from stock were made to it.
I get this question alot. I'm not a motorcycle expert, but here is the information that I've read or had sent in:
As the show was on for 11 seasons, he probably had several different types. In the early episodes where he is wearing an off-white windbreaker, it is probably a Harley-Davidson (tm) Sportster (tm). In the later episodes, it is probably a pre-unit 500 Triumph twin. Another possibility is a BSA. A little bit of trivia: Henry Winkler was scared to death of motorcycles and the only time he actually rode the bike was in the opening sequence where he was pulling into the driveway.
Another guy said it was a Bonnieville Triumph 650 - 73/74.
Others have said in the early episodes it was a Knuckehead Sportster.
I plan on adding a section on Fonzie's motorcycle with all the photos and information I have about it, so please check out my site in the next 2-3 weeks.
Henry winkler drove the motorcycle more than that remember the episode where richie went out with the "tall" girl and the broke down who drove up and donated gas?

Thanks for the replies. I found the answer I was looking for. It's in the March 2000 issue of Cycle World Magazine. Hang in there!

It's all about the 1969 series starring Michael Parks and his Harley Davidson Sportster 883cc model. It's definitely worth checking it out. It's really cool.

Did you know that initially they tried Henry Winkler “The Fonz” on a black Harley first and he fell off and damaged his leg ( couldn’t handle the size of it ). Hence why they switched to the smaller lighter Triumph (silver tank) as shown here. Most people know him with this bike.

This is the ACTUAL Fonzie motorcycle used on Happy Days that Henry Winkler used. For more go here: www.cycleworld.com/2011/08/30/fonzies-triumph-for-sale-sp... 1949 Triumph Trophy TR5 Scrambler Custom ridden by The Fonz in “Happy Days”. Built by Bud Ekins from an old Triumph in his collection - he simply removed the front fender, replaced the handle bars and spray painted the tank silver.

The original Fonzie bike was a black chopped Knucklehead Harley or I think a Harley-Davidson Sportster that was waaaay cooler than the 2nd bike (grey gas tank we all know) they used. It was used up until Season 1 Episode 16. That bike should be set up in the Smithsonian with his jacket. Only reason they changed the bike is because it was too much bike for Henry to handle. He can not ride a motorcycle at all. He has tried but his dyslexia is SO bad he can’t process how to operate the brake, clutch and gears. I feel bad for Henry cause he is a super nice guy too.

So any time you see Fonz riding a motorcycle, it’s for only a few seconds then quickly they had to grab him off of it. Other times in the later episodes they had it strapped down while they pulled him and shot him from the waist up.

The story was that when the show first started, the network censors would not let Henry wear a leather jacket on the show unless he was on a motorcycle, leather jackets being worn for protection. So to get around it, Garry Marshall would always have Fonzie sitting on his motorcycle, so he could wear the leather jacket. But he never rode it because he was afraid. Once Fonzie became a hit, the network executives overruled the censors and Fonzie and his leather jacket became legend.
Hi, here is the auction of the original bike:

He did not know how to ride a motorcycle and was frightened of them anyhow. It is funny. He was an actor and is of course nothing like the character he portrays. I liked the first bike a Harley that he had. I liked Chicos bike in the Lords Of Flatbush. However that bike was newer than the time period of the movie.
