I'm usually both. But I do more of the picking up the tab. When I let others buy for me, I don't sponge off of them. I went out for drinks a few nights ago with some people, and all my drinks were bought. I did try to offer to pay, but they wouldn't accept. But I have been around moochers where they expect you to do all the buying. I stay away from them...a friend of mind is like that.

we got back and forth. sometimes i pay, sometimes them. but we usually never split it, especially since we're friends, it's not like we'll never see each other again. if someone is in from a different town, I pay for everything. they're my guest so they're going to get treated well. same when I stay at a friends place when I'm out of town.

I take turns with friends. Unless it's a birthday in which case that person is treated. With relatives, we pay. My husbands has adult children, and I have adult nephews and a niece. We take them out and always pick up the tab.

Mainly we take turns paying for each other's meal. My friend Diana and I have a system: whoever pays for the meal, the other person pays the tip. We've played by that system for years, and it works beautifully!!

Very rarely do I treat. I may pay for my own, but I usually don't pay for others. I've tried a few times, but I seem to get shot down a lot.

When I spend time with a couple of friends sometimes I treat but mostly end up paying for my own. With cousins and family I offer to treat sometimes I do but they end up paying for me sometimes no matter how much times I offer to treat.
