One of the great techniques of the show was the involvement of a narrator to help tell the story. It was always great getting the "adult" Kevin's spin on things that happened in his childhood.
One of my favorites was in the first episode.
" In one of those quirks of scheduling my first class was gym.
That meant I had to wake up in the morning, shower, get dressed,
go to school, get undressed, run around, shower and get dressed
all in the space of about 45 minutes."

"I realized my dad wasn't pulling strings for me...he was just pulling for me."

At the very end, when the narrator says:

"Growing up happens in a heartbeat. One day you’re in diapers, next day you’re gone. But the memories of childhood stay with you for the long haul. I remember a place... a town... a house like a lot of houses... a yard like a lot of other yards... on a street like a lot of other streets. And the thing is, after all these years, I still look back... with wonder.”

Fantastic writing all throughout the show.
