Does anyone remember a daytime talk show that ran on NBC from 1978 to 1979 titled America Alive? The show was hosted by Jack Linkletter (Art's son) and Janet Langhart and also featured Bruce Jenner, the comedy team of Dick and bert and film critic David Sheehan. America Alive was an ambitious alternative to game shows and soaps but flopped in the ratings like several other shows in the noon ET timeslot since Jeopardy! was move around.

i was just thinking about that show today i was 7 when it came out and even though i watched some news shows at that time i remember thinking that this show was a huge mess it didnt seem to know what it wanted to be its a sure sign that a show is doomed when a 7 year old kid knows that a news show stinks and on top of that nbc lost about 3 mil. viewers they should have stuck with the game shows

...."AMERICA ALIVE!" was on NBC weekdays from 12-1pm(et). The show was split into two half-hour segments, so that the local affiliates could have their choice of broadcasting either the first or second half-hour...or the entire hour...or bypassing the show in favor of their own local programming. And, unfortunately, that's what did the show in. I believe not enough NBC stations were carrying "AMERICA ALIVE!" in order to justify another 13 weeks beyond the six months the show was telecast.

Jack Linkletter was a good host, but, unlike his famous father, he couldn't project more than the "nice guy" image he presented every day (the same problem he faced as host of "HOOTENANNY!" in 1963-'64). That was one of the few times Dick Orkin & Bert Berdis were showcased on television...but they seemed to be more imaginative in their radio work. Janet Langhart and Bruce Jenner were...let's face it, bland. I remember Lucy appearing on it, but there's not much else I can remember about the content.
