View Full Version : Series Finale or Season Finale?
TVFactFan 04-08-2006, 11:04 PM Why did it have to be in the script that the Florida Keith and Thelma would be living in the same building as Keith and Thlema on Baker street? It made it seem like a Season Finale and that the at the start of the New Season there would be a new setting since the Evans were out of the projects but still near each other. But I think everyone should have went their seperate ways to make it seem like a real FINALE instead of having them still living in the same building.
retrochick9 04-08-2006, 11:25 PM I guess you're right, but, they wanted it to be so happy and they thought having everyone staying together would be the happiest. :)

I still feel everyone should have just went their seperate ways to make it real ending.
Ireneparalegal 04-09-2006, 01:39 PM the goal of the family was to get out of the ghetto. This is what the fans would have wanted to see. The family never said our goal is to get out of the ghetto and separate. Just getting out of the projects was their goal. Even in the cousin Raymond episode, they were content with still being together, as long as they were out of the ghetto.

Which means we didn't get to see the interactions between the Evans and Willona during the 80's-LOL
PracTz 04-09-2006, 08:28 PM I could be wrong. However, by the time they filmed the last ep, I think everyone knew that (between the conflicts between cast members, producers, writers- as well as low ratings) there simply wasn't going to be another season after that one so that's why they wrapped the ep (and season) with a happy ending!

But it was written as a Season ending episode that was going to start off the new season with the Evans in a new house down stairs from Willona in the 1979-80 season.

I didn't know what! I can't imagine that it would have been that good with the new format. Best that it ended when it did the way it did!

Where the heck is this info coming from???? I do not recall at all reading anything during that year abt anymore shows/seasons or anything connected with GT.

Brian I wasn't stating it as FACT. I was saying from watching how the show ended, it seemed like it was a set up for the upcoming season rather than a series ending. lol

Irene, Irene, Irene-lol I was saying that it looked like a season ending episode rather than a series finale after watching how it ended. The fact that Willona was going to still be living in the same Building as the Evans, it just didnt feel like a true finale. I think if it was written that Willona moved to another city, it would have seemed less like a Season Finale

But a series doesn't have to end that way. If every series ended that way, that would be boring. The audience and fans of GT basically enjoyed the fact that with Willona and Penny & the Evans' (Keith too) they were one big family. In real life, it would be kinda weird to have the entire clan move to the same house, area, etc. But being television, never expect and never assume. The fans enjoyed the ending because they stayed together. HAPPILY EVER AFTER. Just like a fairy tale. It ends happily...and your imagination goes from that point on.

Well I just think if it ended like Fresh Prince it would have been a true closing episode. On Fresh Prince everyone went in different directions.

And if everything ended the same, then there wouldn't be a point in making a series finale.

Not ending the same, just giving all the characters a NEW BEGINNING
Brian Damage 04-18-2006, 10:13 AM The problem was they had nothing to give Florida on her own. Everybody was moving up except Flo. That is why they decided to stick her with Thelma and Keith.

They should have had Carl come back. They never explained what happened to him. Then him and Flo could have rode off into the sunset. lol

Carl remained in Arizona because he had cancer and the hot weather was good for his health. The reason that Florida and the kids never mentioned Carl in season 6 except there was one final reference in the very beginning was because Esther Rolle didn't like the Carl Dixon character and not mentioning Carl was an agreement made between Esther Rolle and the producers.Florida returned to Chicago for Thelma's wedding and decided to stay with the family and never mentioned Carl. However, she did mention James a couple times.I hope that answers your questions.
found this in a ibm discussion board.il try find the chat between Esther roole and the producers just so u know i would not make this up.
