My big one now is American Idol. I watched season 3 and was mildly entertained. But to be a fanatic like you see over on the Reality message board? No.

that's the theme of the show. NOTHING. it just dealt with crazy little things. No plot. no storylines.

I agree with whoever said Sex and the City. If that show was supposed to be about single, hot women, they missed the mark by three. Besides, it was just dumb.

ELR - is okay but not what people/press make it out to be.

I'll add in Lost too... that show just looks so dull. Not watched it properly so can't say 100%.

HOWEVER... I love Desperate Housewives... I love the whole suburban lifestyle.

I did like ELR for a while, but as i kept watching they show just got so damn annoying, every little incedent was blown out of proportion and the endless bickering, I felt sorry for Raymond cause his wife was just such a nag..

Well when a show is boring it helps to have good looking people. ;)

I totally agree with Friends. I never understood the appeal at all. I thought it was vulgar, asinine trash. How it received so much praise and critical acclaim is a mystery to me. I also never found Seinfeld all that funny. I liked the writing, but I found the characters just plain rude and obnoxious. Everybody Loves Raymond, I used to like, but it was definitely overrated.

I also don't care for Lost, 24, Desparate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, Monk, The Sopranos, Sex & the City, Will & Grace, and just about anything else on current TV.

:( So many CSI haters! Ah well.

I will say, I don't see why CSI: Miami is so popular. To me, it just doesn't play like a CSI episode. And I can't stand any of the characters.

CSI:NY is far superior to me. Especially now with Lindsay instead of Aiden.

M*A*S*H - (used to never like this show, but it's finally grown on me for some reason, but I still don't watch it religiously, though.)

OVERRATED AND STUPID ARE:

SEINFIELD - (Always will and forever will be the most overrated and insanely stupidest Sitcom in history in my eyes!!!)

FRIENDS - (More like enemies that you would never invite over for some big-time dinner! Another stupid show! And don't get me started about Joey, either as that show is as horrible as its parent show!!!)

SEX AND THE CITY - (For all you perverts that thought that this show is really about having sex in the city, then sorry. You just landed on the wrong bus! Watching this crapola makes me cringe! And how come those nimrods, known as the FCC, even let TBS get away w/ them showing a shot of a guy's bare butt on there, but yet they can get huffy and puffy about Janet's lil' "breast?")

FULL HOUSE - (Not only is it very overrated, but it's one of the worst shows ever created, period! And it sucks that those spoiled-ass Olsen Twins gets more rerun attention than a Big Mac! For god's sake this show pops up about 6-8 times a day!!! God!!! I really hate this show!!!)

I don't know either. And to think, the shows name is the exact name of a former musical group. LMAO!

Grey's Anatomy - I don't understand why this is so popular. I watched a few episodes when it first began, and I didn't think it was anything special. Most of the characters grated on my nerves.

Las Vegas - I tried watching this when it initially launched, but it just didn't hook me in. Admittedly, it has a talented cast, but beyond that I don't see the draw.

Point Pleasant - When I first saw the promos for this show, and heard that Marti Noxon was working on it, I got very excited. That thrill was short lived, however. Once I actually watched it, I realized that it could have been a lot better. While it wasn't a ratings success, I don't understand its strong cult following.

Survivor - I occasionally watched this during its first season, but I wasn't particularly enthralled by it. To this day I do not "get" how it's managed to captivate such a large audience.

Ok, I can totally see you're point now. Ok, it's not accurate, but which sitcom is? You're not supposed to think about it, you're not supposed to demand reality from a sitcom. Hell, Friends took place in New York, yet people live in huge appartments and never lock their door? 9/11 is never mentioned?

The creators once said they wanted Friends to represent an ideal New York or an ideal world, nothing like reality; in short: a world where you don't have to worry abut things like burglary, stealing, crime, money etc.

Or they're very idealistic, or they've come up with some crappy excuses when they were asked critical questions. ;)

There are many shows that could do a better job of showing NYC's diversity but I've noticed that Friends seems to be the main one to get knocks.

You know, I never see 'blacks' or 'whites' or 'Hispanics' or 'Asians' or whatever. I just see PEOPLE. And I won't count if a show has 'enough' different races in it.

But in their defense, they were a close-knit bunch of Friends - and so you don't see many black people.

A lot of episodes of Friends only had the Friends. Others had family, which were obviously white; Boy/Girlfriends which were not always white. Its understandable. There where black background people aswell.

Pretty much every sitcom since the beginning of TV with the exception of a few(All in the Family, Jeffersons, Family Matters, Roseanne). Some episodes of Cosby Show are OK, but most are terrible. Friends, Seinfeld, Frasier, never got into those and can't figure out why they were such big shows.

All crime dramas. Ugh. We have enough crime in the world already.

Yes, FRIENDS is a totally overrated show. I've tried to watch it a few times, but just didn't find it funny. Just another overhyped show, with actors who's EGOs got so big during their "hey day" with demands for one million bucks per episode. I because of the hype, I know the ratings were good, but there have been so many better sitcoms to air...yet the actors never saw money like that.

M*A*S*H....so overrated! Whenever I hear the theme song, i'm grabbing for my remote so that I can turn the channel....LOL. I just didn't get it or its hype...

Will & Grace - First thing is the way they feel they Have to have special guest stars. If a show's cast isn't enough to carry a show, then it doesn't have much going for it. Secondly, I bought the season one DVD and just didn't laugh that much.

Just Shoot Me! - Um, it just didn't make me laugh. Nor did I care about the characters. How in the world it lasted as long as it did is beyond me. (Well not too beyond. Probably because of it's Thursday time slot)

3rd Rock from the Sun - I bought the DVDs and very rarely laughed. I can see how it could be funny, but instead of laughing, I'll just think "that's funny."

South Park - However, I hope they really stick it to both Isaac Hayes and Tom Cruise.

The Cosby Show - I give it credit for saving the sitcom back in the 80s. However, I don't like it. It can definitly be funny at times. I just don't care for the characters and (like many others here) can't stand Claire. Bill Cosby is a funny guy, I just don't like his 1980s sitcom.

I don't like 1950's and 1960's tv show anymore I use to watch it not anymore I have 'burned out" 50's & 60's

Well, I used to like Andy Griffith, but when TV Land (during a period when they had AG about 8 times a day at one point) reran this show 8 times a day, I got sick of it.

I also count in Green Acres, as well. Too much over-acting and even the theme song gets tiring after a while, too.

Desperate Housewives, I can see staying on the air a few more years and then KAPOOT. Why??? because it started out GREAT (not in my eyes, other people's eyes) and because of that great season, every season will be compared to that and it will be hard to achieve that year after year. Kinda like a musical artist that makes a great debut album and their follow-ups are the pits. I hate DH with a passion.

Desperate Housewives- I tried to watch it once and I was like WTF???

ANY of the reality shows...well, not counting the historical ones like Prairie house , 1900 house etc those are great :p

I agree about the quick rise. That seems like a good thing, but it really never is.

I can't say I despise it, cuz I think the ladies do well with their characters (most of who I find aggrivatingly annoying)...what I hate is the constant hoopla. No show should be talked about constantly in the media. Burnout!

However, my bigger spat is with Grey's Anatomy. They took over all the constant magazine covers and talk. How many times, since TV Guide went to its bigger format, has Ellen Pompeo or someone from Grey's Anatomy been on the cover?? ENOUGH ALREADY!!!! I am so sick of seeing her ugly face on my cover.

Miami doesn't seem to take itself seriously at all, the star (whose name I forget at the moment) is such a terrible actor it makes it enjoyable. I think it's the most light-hearted of the three series, even with murder and all that.

I think it's one of those shows where you just have to like that type of humor. If that's not your thing, it is a pretty silly show.

I loved it, then was totally annoyed by it, and I'm back to enjoying it again. And it was all because of the slapstick.

I don't understand how a person really couldn't like I Love Lucy, or Lucille Ball. I'm not saying you have to complete love it, but how could you hate it/her? She's one of the greatest comedic actresses ever, if not the greatest.

well actually i love that show. it is actually the only current show i tune into, these days. even though it has become popular, it is one of those shows you either like or dislike. but hey, everyone is entitled to their own opinion

I can't stand all those detective shows. There are wayyy too many of them! What do people find so entertaining about people getting murdered? My cousin keeps trying to get me to watch some of them, especially the "comedy" ones like Psych and Monk. I'm sorry, but to me, solving murders is not entertaing and certainly not funny. Just my opinion :)

:crazy: Holy Scnykees! This topic could cause my fingers to rot off from half a day's worth of typing such a lengthy list of the "I JUST DON'T GET THE HYPE" programs that I am able to remember without my head exploding like a "Scanners" movie casualty from attempting to recall every one. Well, I'll just mention a few, however, my entire list would be astronomical.

#1. ALL forms of "Reality" television. From the numerous ridiculous contests to the even more annoying lifestyles of egotistic celebrities and their pampered spoiled rotten spouses and offspring who clearly define the word "dysfunctional" in all its glory, I will never ever understand the
fascination for this "scripted" nonsensical type of programming. I wished I had stock in AA batteries because like many television viewers, my remote gets a workout surfing for a "non-reality" program to enjoy if only for a brief moment, but it's becoming extremely difficult to accomplish that. This "Reality" TV virus is infesting and rapidly spreading its venom to nearly every channel available which is so frustrating and disappointing.

#2. Talk Shows. I will never understand this "God-like" appeal that talk show hosts have acquired over the years. They are JUST TALK SHOW HOSTS....PERIOD! If Oprah informed her worshippers that the earth was not round, but instead, flat, her clones would stand up, scream at the top of their lungs with approval and then go out and search for a "new" revised map of the world. And the same can be said for Dr. Phil! And as for Ellen, that constant aggrevating eardrum piercing high-pitched screaming from her audience could raise the dead! Sorry, I just don't get it!

THREE shows from my list that I will discuss:

#1. Sex and the City. I honestly tried to watch this show, but soon after immediately switching channels within 15 minutes or so, realized that it was a good thing that I hadn't eaten beforehand. Well, first off, I'm not a fan of "romantic" comedies, movies, etc. and I apologize to the lady viewers for sounding chauvenistic in stating that I perceived this particular show to be a "chick-flick" girl "thang," thus, unappealing to me, although, I'm sure there are no doubt, many men who watch it on a regular basis. This Hollywood "Love Jones" for SJP just absolutely boggles my mind! Her grill is plastered nearly everywhere you turn. I'm surprised that it hasn't been added to Mt. Rushmore already. She's....OK, but she, along with her 3 cronies wouldn't even get a glance from me if I happened to see the most beautiful woman on television today, Robin Meade, of CNN's "Morning Express" strolling alongside of them heading in my direction on Times Square. Memo to Hollywood: CAST "RM" in anything! She's magnetic, beautiful, sexy, witty, funny and intelligent.

#2. Friends. This show still leaves me scratching my head wondering WHAT the hell is it about? I perceived it to be extremely boring and not at all humorous. I want to use a throwback term....Yuppies? "Seinfeld" was a show supposedly about "nothing," but I'm more apt to think that this show would be a more appropriate fit for that description. Couldn't understand all the hype for "Friends!"

#3. Scrubs. I don't even know where to begin here. I'm trying hard to recall, but I can't remember ever watching a half-hour comedy that was as bad as this one. Even the promos pimping this show annoys me to no end. And this show is coming to TV Land? Possibly, if I worked in the medical field, I could appreciate the so-called insanity-laced humor and relate to such nonsense, but I highly doubt it. It leaves me wondering if many of you who share my opinion of this show have asked yourselves the same two questions I first asked myself upon initially viewing it and that is, "I wonder WHO these writers are related to in Hollywood?" and "Could I come up with a better idea for a half-hour comedy than this? I bet I could!":confused:

OMG, I hate reality shows and it seems that every single TV station has them! Even the Food Network and HGTV! The only reality show I ever enjoyed was "Dancing With the Stars" and that's not really a reality show. It's more like a competition show. Even so, I only watched the dance numbers and not all that other garbage where the dancers and celebs are arguing or crying over not being able to do the routine.

Really, Schmoopie, if I were a fan of talk shows on a daily basis, I would choose Ellen to view over everyone else in that catagory. She seems very likeable and sincere, talented, confident, but NOT conceded. She doesn't come over as someone {won't mention a name here, but it's pretty obvious, "who"} who puts aside that hour of her show to instill that "all about ME" sort of format. I've happened to land on Ellen's show while surfing and stuck with it whenever I chose to listen to a guest celeb or sports figure chat with her and it was always very entertaining. It's just that gut-wrenching constant screaming from her audience that doesn't do much to add relief to one of my acute severe sinus headaches that I may be enduring at the time. :eek:

This is exactly what I meant! People in my office are forever watching this crap, and I can't understand what the fascination of it is! I go to lunch at 11 every day and I always run into the break room and turn on the news before someone else can come in and put that other crap on. Granted I don't watch the news either, but I'd much rather listen to that than those judge shows. I mean, if these are REAL judges, wouldn't they be better off in a REAL courtroom? :confused:

I like Ellen's show too! I'd much rather watch her than anyone else, because she has fun with her guests and it's not just a "sit-down and talk about the latest project" type of show. I remember once she had Patrick Dempsey on and they were playing frisbee or something during his interview. I thought that was pretty funny!

And my FAVORITE thing about Ellen is her dance segments! Those are awesome! :jig:

^ I will say this in defense of Spongebob - it made my nephew stop crying the other day when I was baby-sitting him. He was missing his parents (who were out of town) and his grandmother (his usual baby-sitter). So while rocking him and trying to soothe him, I was flipping through channels and happened across a Spongebob marathon on Nick. My nephew immediately stopped crying and was soon giggling as he watched the show. So it's helped me out!!!! :lol:

Same here. I never could sit through an entire episode of her show (except the MTM reunion).she annoys me too

I'm not an Oprah fan either. Wasn't she the reason for the cancellation of the ABC After School specials? (Anyone remember those?)

I never thought about that. In 1987, I do remember her getting the 4pm timeslot. One year later, the specials were gone. Hmmm....

Here are mine: Grey's Anatomy, My Name is Earl, Lost, Seinfeld, King of the Hill, South Park, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Desperate Houswives, Sex and the City, Still Standing, Spongebob Squarepants, The Office, Scrubs, All in the Family, MASH, Cheers, Sanford and Son, Two and a Half Men.

I will definitely think of more later. ;)

I dont get the popularity of the L-word or Sex and the city, one is a just a bad soap opera about women who happen to prefer other women (with super lame sex scenes, i might add...thus giving me no reason to watch :lol: ) and the other is a so-called sex comedy , which has little comedy and even less sex

Pretty much any sitcom or drama that premiered after 1989, all reality shows, they're all junk TV.
