I'm just curious what your experience is with going for a job and the "Required Qualifications" that they always have.

Here's a job I just found:

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:


High School or Vocational School graduate.

Previous experience coding diagnoses and procedures with ICD-9-CM and CPT.

Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.

Strong interpersonal skills.
I have 1, 3, and 5. But 2 is iffy. I learned how to do that in the Medical Class I took, but I haven't had any on the job experience doing it. Should that stop me from filling out an application? Or should I send one anyway and just have them not call me back, on the off chance they don't put too much emphasis on on the job experience?

The weird thing is, here are the not-necessary, but liked qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

Previous medical office experience.

Computer data entry experience.

Which I mean, how can you get coding experience if you've never worked in a medical office?

Argh...you can't get a job without experience, but you can't get experience without a job...and no, education doesn't seem to help. :wallbang

That's how I felt when I was fresh out of college. You can send in the application and pray for the best.

I would fill it out and attach a resume. The worst they can say is no. Who knows they might have another position that you are perfect for.

Sometimes it isn't what you know it's who you know. I went to college for 4 years and graduated with a degree. Couldn't get my foot in the door until I found my current job thru a good friend. Just pound the pavement and submit your resume to companies. Even if they aren't hiring at that moment something might come up down the road and if you fit the requirements they are looking for they will call you.

Trust me that is how I find alot of my employees. If they are hiring call them to check on the status of your application. Don't be obnoxious, just persistent. Let them know that you truly are interested in the job, not just in filling out an application.

Just today in our local paper, there was a list of do's and don't in finding a job, interviewing, and staying with the job. I got dizzy reading so much. What ever happened to knowing someone who knows about you. How you are honest, level headed, on time, and have common sense. Sure maybe you don't know all about the job. I don't George Washinton knew the ins and out of the presidency, but he did a good job of learning.
