View Full Version : Shows where a character had a identical twin...that really wasn't a twin
Ireneparalegal 04-03-2006, 12:05 PM In Different World, Whitley had a twin, almost identical, except for the teeth. I hate when sitcoms do this. Out of the blue an identical "twin" of theirs shows up. It's usually a family member like a cousin, which was the case here. It just seems to me so unrealistic, not to mention boring.
Brian Damage 04-03-2006, 12:07 PM All in the Family had that in one episode. Jean Stapelton played duel characters. One was Edith and the other was some German lady I think.
sbeamish 04-03-2006, 08:21 PM On Mr. Terrific the lead character, Stanley Beamish, had an identical twin: a safecracker named "Fingers" Maclaine.
(In the non-sitcom sphere, each of the four Cartwrights on Bonanza had at least one identical, non related twin.)
Ireneparalegal 04-04-2006, 05:06 PM let's not forget the infamous Peter Brady twin...
and the Alice cousin who was a twin...
and the Aunt who resembled Jan
Man, Brady bunch must have the record on this category...
Ant-Lox 04-05-2006, 01:42 PM Sabrina The teenage witch had a few twins, one who was in jail in the other realm, and one with a large nose...
Chain Gang Member 04-05-2006, 01:49 PM Jaleel White played Stephan Urquel,Murtal and another one of Steve Urkel's cousins while playing Steve Urkel

I forgot abt that one. I watched Family Matters during it's first run, but not in syndication.
dlemond 04-05-2006, 02:57 PM Don't forget about The Patty Duke Show.
She played identical cousins.
Happens all the time.
cheryl8159 04-08-2006, 03:09 PM Don't forget Phoebe on 'Friends' and her sister Ursula.
PanamaMike 04-08-2006, 03:43 PM Bewitched - Samantha & her cousin Serena
Ireneparalegal 04-08-2006, 03:43 PM How abt Samantha and her cousin Serena...one blonde and one brunette.
ooops, didn't see your post above mine until after I posted...doh!
edoug 04-08-2006, 09:27 PM Gilligan's Island, thr true champ. A twin for Gilligan, Ginger and Mr. Howell.
Tweety 04-16-2006, 08:55 PM Bewitched - Samantha & her cousin Serena
Not to mention "Jeannie" and "Jeannie II"

I guess the Patty Duke show is what started the whole "Identical Cousin" thing, although other shows had previously involved look-alikes in single-espisode plots.
Herman Munster also had a twin cousin (or was it his brother?).
Ireneparalegal 04-17-2006, 12:13 AM Gilligan's Island, thr true champ. A twin for Gilligan, Ginger and Mr. Howell.
I guess GI and Brady Bunch are the champs in this category.
EmoJoe 04-17-2006, 12:14 AM well, it's not the same show, but in "Mad About You", Lisa Kudrow played a waitress and then when she went on to do "Friends", they said that the waitress was Phoebe's twin sister.

Although Liz Montgomery played both roles, strangely, i never thought they looked alike ...Same goes for "Patti and Kathy" on thePatti Duke show...ok, i was a little kid, at the time

Yeah, me too. Especially when the ending credits of Bewitched showed a different name for Serena. I believe they showed an actress name of Pandora Spocks as the person who played Serena. It wasn't until later that i realized that was a crock.
treky 04-17-2006, 01:27 AM yea, Liz Montgomery had them purposley put "Pandora Spocks" in the credits, because she enjoyed playing Serena so much, and she didn't want viewers to know it was also her.
treky 04-17-2006, 01:39 AM on "McHales Navy" once Tim Conway played ensign Parker and his look-alike italian cousin. Ernest Borgnine did the same thing in another episode.
on "F Troop" once Larry Storch played And & his look-alike french cousin-I think his name was Pierre.
On the final episode of "Nichols" (a short-lived show from the 70s that starred James Garner as the sherriff of an old west town) he was killed at the beggining but then for the remainder of the episode, played his twin brother.
And, how can anyone forget, Max Baer as both Jethro and Jetherine on "THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES".
Mr. Television 04-17-2006, 01:47 AM I guess GI and Brady Bunch are the champs in this category.
Same creator.

It appears that you and Panama Mike posted your Samantha/Serena comments at the exact same minute... once again proving that great minds think alike!
sbeamish 04-17-2006, 09:04 PM on "F Troop" once Larry Storch played And & his look-alike french cousin-I think his name was Pierre.
As I recall, Larry Storch played the whole Agarn family.

isn't that eerie?????
great minds indeed!:D
Tweety 04-17-2006, 09:16 PM As I recall, Larry Storch played the whole Agarn family.
Oh wow, you are good! Great catch there...
Larry Storch did indeed play every member of the Agarn family to appear on F-Troop (even the women!)
I remember "El Diablo", his Mexican cousin (also an illegal, no doubt!)
And I think he played a Russian cousin in another episode...
Boy, it's one thing to have ONE identical cousin, like Alice on the Brady Bunch, or Patty Duke, or Peter Brady...
But to have a whole FAMILY full of identical cousins, wow, that's scary!
slackermonkey 04-28-2006, 03:55 AM The Janitor on "Scrubs" tried to trick J.D. into thinking he had a twin brother, but neither the character nor the actor has a twin.
