It's all too much for me. These guys talk like nuclear physicists designing a particle accelerator. How about a simpler approach -- buy a DVD recorder? Hook it up to the output of your DVR. Press PLAY on your DVR and RECORD on your DVD recorder. Problem solved. loren 04-01-2006, 11:46 PM All those hacking and phracking and phreaking boards make my head spin, with their acronyms and CAMs and TSOPS and JTAGs and who knows what-all. Problem solved. thats how i get things off my direct dvr i use a t splitter for the s video, and the tos link cable for the audio quite simple people just love that jargon on some --help--web sites RedWhine56 04-02-2006, 10:17 AM You should do a Google search using the make & model number & some appropriate key words/phrases like 'transfer to pc' or something. I found a couple of sites devoted to Tivo hacking this way! What I do with my Tivo box is transfer from the Tivo box to my PC using a wireless home network. I let the transfers run overnight. Unless you play from your Dish box & record on a DVD recorder, you may also need to have a program that converts from the file type on your hard drive to a more common file type. IE, Tivo files are stored as .tivo files which are proprietary file types that are a subset of MPG files. VideoRedo allows you to convert from .tivo files (NOT recognized by any/most editing/authoring programs) to .mpg files which are recognized by many editing/authoring programs. (I don't know if or how well simply changing the file extension works, since I already had Videoredo & so have always used it to convert them.) I occasionally do play from the Tivo box & record on a DVD recorder, but it's a PITA, if you ask me, having to set timers to stop the recording & start another one, etc. (At least that's how I have to do it with my Tivo box, if I want to have a menu option for each show.) Videohelp.com is one good place to start. Doom9 (I think that's correct) & afterdawn.com are great, too. |
