I think most of us can agree that the latest "Best Of" dvd release was in actual fact, anything but...hardly a portrayal of the best that UM has had to offer over the years..in fact, basically a re-hash of the sets already released, but with a bonus disc thrown in to entice those who'd already bought the sets to empty their wallets again..

now, maybe you could forgive FL if they'd actually made an effort to be professional with said disc....in fact, nothing could be further from the truth..

As has already been pointed out on the board, the set claims on the box to have a segment that doesnt actually appear on the disc....one of the segments is also mis-spelt on the discs menu...this is shoddy enough, but the cherry on the cake is that the treasures(and probably the ghost) segments have been brutally cut!!!

for example, the 2nd half of the Lost Dutchman goldmine story simply isnt there....6 or 7 minutes just left out....UNBELIEVABLE!....so what theyve actually ended up doing is cramming 10 segments onto one disc but cutting great chunks of them out..

needless to say, i'll be writing to FL to voice my disgust ...this is totally unacceptable, especially as they must have known that for real fans of the show, the bonus disc is the ONLY reason they'd have bought the set in the first place

i hope some of you out there agree

I agree. However, the bonus disk with five new ghost stories was the reason why I ordered the set. First Look Media is ran by Nazis just like Lifetime.

Thanks for the advanced warning. I was considering buying the "Best of" DVD just for the treasure n ghost disc, I think I'll pass now. Gee if they can't get hardcore fans of the show to buy them, who else will?

I have written a polite but strongly worded email to Crystaldawns contact at First Look about the abject quality of the bonus disc in the best of/ultimate dvd editions of UM, and await his response....

if i get one i'll post it

I think what is listed on the Best of DVD is a joke. I was so disappointed in what they considered the best of UM. They have no clue what the best segments were. I dont see that DVD making much money.

I said on another thread that I purchased the "Best Of" Collection, opened it, took a look at the episodes that they chose to include... and have not watched it yet. I'm disappointed as well.

I liked the idea of having the fans choose the Best UM segments. I would buy that collection even it were just one disc... because I KNOW that the fans of UM could pick better segments than what First Look included in that collection. Heck, Crystaldawn's UM collection was 100x better than what I purchased from First Look... but that's just my opinion.

After buying the first set and being horribly disappointed, I never even considered buying this "best of" (the worst) collection. I am firmly of the opinion that the only good UM set you will get is one you TiVo or trade amongst yourself.

The thing is, it doesnt really matter how good the segments they put on a disc are if they're going to ruin them by cutting great chunks out....

That's what disappoints me in the effect that they're cutting chunks out. That sort of takes away the affect of the segment itself. You want to see the whole thing, especially if it's a moving segment like the Lost Dutchment Goldmine story. When you've seen it before, you expect to see the whole segment to get the whole story. But, I guess if you've never seen the segment, you won't miss it.

So there's no new ghost stories on it like they advertised? If there is which ones are they?I was hoping that one where the woman takes the picture of a room the man shows up in the film.I forgot the name of it but he's a ghost.

It doesn't seem like these DVDs are perfect, but would you rather not have any at all?

I haven't bought any but only recently learned they were even released. Used to be soooo scared of this show as a kid, but am watching it on Lifetime again now. The Bizarre Murders set looks pretty interesting, though some cases I like aren't on there. None of the others appeal to me... I usually am only interested in "unexplained deaths" or "missing persons"

Would love to see a MP set, but doubt it.

I must confess that I haven't bought any of the sets yet, I wanted to hear what others had to say first. I plan to make the Strange Legends set my next purchase because it looks to me like it's the best set First Look has to offer.

Yes, of course its better to have something on disc, and the first 6 box sets are by and large well done, the exception being the Bizarre Murders set which most fans would agree contains some dubious selections given the wealth of excellent segments that First Look could have included..

My point was that the "Best of" set was cynical becuase it contained a disc that FL knew would tempt fans as it wasnt available anywhere else, even though it required you to buy alot of stuff you already had (from the first 6 sets)....and to cut great chunks out of those bonus segments-the one thing fans would have bought the set to see-without any prior warning was frankly taking the p***

had i known they were going to do that, i would never have bought it, and im sure alot of people feel the same way

To answer your question Jeff003, yes there are ghost segments on the bonus disc, but i cant gaurentee that they havent been cut down from the version you'd have seen when they were originally aired..they are Ghost Fighters; Haunting on 37th Steet; Direct Contact (more a psychic case than a ghost one); Haunted Mansion
