The word you are looking for is ambidextrous. ;)

To answer your question - I write with my right hand. I'm mainly a righty, but I am also half ambidextrous. When I started to hold my eating utensils and do things with my left hand at such a young age, my dad had a MAJOR cow about it. He FORCED me to use my right hand because he REFUSED to have me become a lefty.

Therefore, I use my both hands for different things. For writing, using eating utensils and using my computer mouse, I use my right hand. For a lot of other things such as opening a door, holding something, or sticking my hand out when something is handing me something I use my left hand. So I am somewhat ambidextrous.

Question - they say right-handed people tend to live an average of nine years later since so many things are designed for right-handed people. Soooo..... which category do ambidextrous people fall under? Hmmmm.... I wonder....

i'm extremely right handed.. the whole left side of my body is pretty much useless. my trainer was making fun of me for it the other day because i couldn't lift anything with my left arm. i can't even flex my left arm. :(

but i've been working on writing with my left.. so maybe it will work eventually.

I'm somewhat ambidextrous. I played racket ball once, and I realized that I kept switching hands. If the ball was on my left side I had the racket in my left hand, but if the ball was hit to my right I would switch the racket to my right hand. I became aware of it while I was playing and I remember thinking how weird it seemed. However I can't write with my right hand to save my life.

Write, use a knife and throw/kick a ball with my right hand.

But I open jars with my left hand and also keep my keys and wallet in my left pockets.

When I play tennis I serve with my left hand but play the rest with my right. Anyhow I write right handed but pretty much do everything else left.

I can write with both. It's easier to write with my right hand, because we right left to right, but I can write with my left quite well. I was born with true ambidexterity.

For anyone that can do certain things better with one hand opposed to the other, you can call yourself "a little ambidextrous" "somewhat ambidextrous" or whatever, if you want, but you actually don't have ambidexterity. You have "cross dominance."

You're welcome. Yeah, isn't that interesting stuff? I love reading about handedness and all the different kinds.

By the way, what other person voted "both"?

I'm a lefty. I remember the teachers would angrily yank the pencils and scissors out of my left hand in the kindergarten and first grade and shove them into my right hand.

I have always hated hearing about situations like that. My grandpa was forced to switch from his left to right. He got so used to it he stayed with his right. One of my foreign language teachers also was forced to write with her right but she switched back to her left when she was older. Thank goodness this kind of nonsense doesn't go on anymore--at least in most places in the world. Although I remember starting school in the 1980s and teachers saw I could write with both, they would guide me into writing with my right. **** them.
