They were perfectly matched, so I voted for both.

They were both great characters. However, 99 was smarter than Max but apparently never pointed it out to him. She would always figure things out first but let him think he had (as far as I remember). Also, interestingly, 99 often seemed insecure, thinking that Max was going to be attracted to some other woman.

I watched Get Smart at the Museum of Television and Radio recently and it was the episode in which Control is downsizing (how's that for a relevant plot) and Max pretends to join KAOS. 99 actually did not appear in that one! They were a great team, I'm surprised she was ever written out.

BTW is that picture above doctored? I'm pretty sure Barbara Feldon was taller than Don Adams. ;)

Yes, she was. They did everything they could though to make sure that Don Adams appeared taller. I think in one interview, he said that often he would stand on an apple crate in some of their scenes.

I think you really needed them both as they were a perfect team...what one lacked in one dept, the other had, and vice versa. Max was actually smarter than he seemed...he usually DID solve his cases...it just took some time for his brain to warm up first! ;)

Well said!

Even though you can no longer vote, I choose both, Max and 99. You certainly couldn't have one without the other! They were both great, lovable, histarical and the best at what they did. ;)

OT: Quite a few people have done this in shows. I think it's interesting.

For Example: I've read that Gillian Anderson [Agent Dana Scully on The X-Files] as done this in scenes, even though her co-star, David Duchovony is taller. And right now I can't remember the reason. (I'll have to get back on that, haha)
