Officials: Second-Graders Stabbed Classmate With Hypodermic Needle

POSTED: 9:53 am EST March 29, 2006

NEW YORK -- Two second-grade boys stabbed a classmate with a hypodermic needle they had had picked up off the street on the way to school, a Department of Education spokesman said.

The boys stabbed a second-grade girl with the needle during class Monday morning, department spokesman Keith Kalb said.

The 7-year-old victim, Angelette Hunter-Taylor, said the boys teased her and threatened her. "They said, 'Say goodbye, 'cause you're gonna die tomorrow.' Then they stabbed me," she told the New York Post.
The girl's mother, Denise Taylor, told the Post and New York Daily News that the Bronx school didn't send her daughter to the hospital right away. She also said they did not immediately call police.
Kalb said Tuesday the girl went to the nurse at the school and then to the hospital. He would not discuss her medical condition.

A needle they found on the street?? I just hope that poor little girl doesn't get Aids.

I don't understand why that mother didn't send her to the hospital right away!

It's getting to be out of hand with all of these young kids doing such terrible things to each other. Their parents should spend more time with them and discipline them accordingly. They get away with too much these days.

I work at "Zellers" and have been told by co-workers about kids throwing things on the floor and the parents don't say or do anything. Sometimes, it's the parents that do these things; what kind of example are they setting?
Obviously not a good one; they should know better than that.

That is horrible. I never thought I would ever hear something that I would consider worse than bullying. I mean, kids physically harming kids not with pushing and shoving, but with needles?!? I also hope nothing bad happens to that poor girl. I live in a not so good neighbourhood in my city and there's sometimes needles in the backlanes that you definetely don't want to touch.
Parents have to teach their kids not only to not go with strangers, but also teach their kids not to pick up stuff they find off the street and not to bully and/or physically harm each other. I wonder why the school didn't send her to a hospital right away. I think if anyone gets stabbed with a needle that's the first place you should go. The police should have been called right away, too....I hope that girl's okay. :(
