Multicasting is the ability for one station to operate two or more digital stations at the same time. Thanks go digital TV, most local channels can easily do this.

For example KTLA (in LA, of course) has the following channels:
5.1- regular WB programming
5.2 - The Tube (music videos, concerts)
5.3 - Spanish programming

KABC
7.1 - ABC programs
7.2 - "ABC7+" (the stations original programming and news)
7.3 - Traffic and weather

Do you guys think that this fairly new technology could help bring back classic sitcoms to local stations. I can't imagine why a station won't dedicate a subchannel for TV shows they didn't have space for in the past?

KTTV (FOX 11) has rights to air "Hangin' With Mr. Cooper," "Charles In Charge," "Small Wonder," "Dharma & Greg," "Spin City," among others, but won't air them because lack of space. The station could easily create a channel through multicasting and take advantage of these shows.
