I think that's the only song that has ever made me cry. "Dance With My Father" by Luther is very touching also, but not enough to bring me to tears.

Sorry ( AKA I ran all the way home, just to say im sorry )- The Impalas
Whenever i hear this song about a guy who threw away the love of his life and begs to see her one more time to try and get her back, I think of Johanne ( the love of MY life ) who gave me many chances to tell her how I felt, but, i couldnt, and lost her forever! I can barely sing this song without getting misty until my voice starts to crack =_='

Almost anything by John Lennon - especially "(Just Like) Starting Over", which was to be his big comeback hit. Instead it was a big posthumous hit. "Woman" makes me cry too; I would love to have the man of my dreams sing/play it for me someday. "Beautiful Boy" makes me cry because it makes me think of my gorgeous 1-year-old nephew.

"If You Can Read My Mind" by Gordon Lightfoot and "Up, Up & Away" by 5th Dimension make me cry even though I have no idea why.

"Faithfully" and "Send Her My Love" by Journey always choke me up because they remind me of a very special male friend of mine who unexpectedly passed on at age 35 in 2003. "On Eagles' Wings" (the hymn) makes me cry because it was played at his funeral. :(

Yes, and so is "When You Love A Woman". Of course, no one can sing "Open Arms" like Steve Perry.

To me, Journey without Steve Perry is just like Bewitched without Dick York. Just doesn't work for me...;)

Selena's "Dreaming Of You" is one that makes me misty.

Have you ever heard the original version of "Everytime You Go Away"? Written by Daryl Hall, the song first appeared on Hall & Oates' 1980 album Voices. It is also available on the 2-CD compilation The Essential Hall & Oates. The arrangement is slow and very gospelish. When I saw the duo perform live in 2002, they played the song and it still holds up.

I heard Hall and Oates's origianl recording long before Paul Young covered it. My sister was incensed, she was a Hall and Oates fan, and she hated the idea of anyone redoing their songs. She disliked Paul Young's version.

Wow is that song ever moving, from the subject matter and to the way Sam sings it and with the whole strings and horns in the background. It almost sounds eerie, but then it was one of the last things he recorded.

To be honest I cant really describe it well, you have to hear it for yourself.

No Monika, I've never heard that. It must be something as Bette Milder's version is a real tear-jerker.

Another song that has a sad melody to me is, Over The Rainbow. It's a mixture of longing for watching The Wizard of Oz in childhood, Judy Garland's sad fate, as well as wishing for a perfect world. Sort of like John Lennon's, Imagine.

Another song that makes me sad is the Christmas song, I'll Be Home For Christmas. Many Christmas songs were written in wartime, particulary WWII, and that song is one of them. With that in mind, listening to it really tugs at the heartstrings. "If only in my dreams."

For sure...June had just passed when he recorded the song, right?Actually, the song was on the album 'American IV: The Man Comes Around', which was recorded on Rick Rubin's American label in 2002, the fall before June's death, but I imagine he knew she was not going to be with him for very long. It was interesting that in his later years, Johnny Cash teamed up with a producer such as Rubin who were more known by younger audiences for his work with bands such as Slayer, the Beastie Boys, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It was his way of keeping in touch with more contemporary audiences.

Dreaming of You and I Could Fall In Love by Selena make me cry.

This part from Dreaming of You especially makes me cry:

Late at night when all the world is sleeping
I stay up and think of you
And I still can't believe
That you came up to me and said "I love you"
I love you too

Now I'm dreaming with you tonight
Till tomorrow and for all of my life

That whole part gives me goosebumps and makes me cry because her voice was so beautiful and she died way to young.

Dang you Scumlonda for being so selfish by murdering a beautiful young woman that was so full of life.

"The Prayer", "To Where You Are" and "You're Still You" by Josh Groban--and those are just off his first album LOL!

"Annie's Song" by John Denver and "Dreamboat Annie" by Heart, for their prophetic nature in my life shall we say....

Already mentioned above, but "Who Wants to Live Forever" and "The Show Must Go On" by Queen, as well as another song that was recorded just before Freddie Mercury died "These Are the Days of Our Lives". Such a great loss to the world of music...same thing with John Lennon, I cry at alot of his songs for the same reason. Most especially "Woman", thinking how I would feel if I were Yoko now. And "Imagine"--it doesn't reflect my philosophy at all but I find it achingly beautiful.

Also already mentioned, "Open Arms" by Journey. I do agree Journey without Steve Perry is never going to be the same. But having said that, on their album "Generations" (which featured several of the lead singers they went through after he left as well as lead vocals by all the other members but the drummer), many of the songs can make me cry, and not just because he is not singing them. "Faith in the Heartland" (perfectly expresses where I have now lived half my life though I am not a country girl by birth) and "Butterfly" especially (see my screen name and signature).

Perhaps weirdly, "Sweet Child O' Mine" by Guns and Roses gets to me. Reminds me of my children, who are blonde and blue-eyed. I made it the running text throughout my older daughter's scrapbook when she graduated high school.

As also brought up by another poster, there are a lot of Christian works that can move me greatly. The biggest one, though, is a song that I don't think anyone else on the planet seems to remember--"For Those Tears I Died". I have never heard it recorded by any Christian artist but it was in a book of "Jesus freak" type modern songs from the 60's that my family had when I was growing up.

And for many years after my sister in law FINALLY got married after 40, I couldn't listen to "Winds Beneath My Wings" without laughing because she sang it to her husband at their wedding and made a fool of herself. But then just recently he passed away suddenly, and yesterday for the first time in years I heard that song over the PA in a Chinese restaurant and nearly bawled in public! They were very happy, but in recent years had hit hard times, and now she is alone....:(

And how did I forget "Tears in Heaven"? I just went back through this forum and caught that--any parent would probably lose it over that one if they know the story.

These are just a few songs that make me sad.

Got To Be There by The Jackson 5-The way little Michael sings that song just amazes me. By the time the song is over, there are tears streaming down my face without me realizing it. The emotion little Michael put into that song was nothing short of amazing. You could actually feel what he was feeling in the song by the way he sang it.

He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother is an amazing song. I admit that I do have tears in my eyes when I hear that song. It's wonderful.

Landslide by Fleetwood Mac is a great song. It makes me think of my dad who died back in 09 of cancer. It was sad before that but it has more meaning now. The first time I heard it, I cried.

Tears In Heaven by Eric Clapton is a tearjerker. When I found out the real meaning of the song, it made it even sadder.

Independence Day by Martina McBride is really sad. The song itself isn't sad unless you watch the actual video. It just makes me bawl like a baby.

Superman (It Ain't Easy) by Five Fighting is very sad. It's a great song but it does really make you think about life.

I will post more later.

Oooooh yes! Forgot about that one, which is odd because it has always done the same to me....most of all just last year when we sang it in church in honor of the high school graduates--one of whom was my oldest daughter! I LOST IT!

Don't laugh but I'm also adding GreenDay's "Good Riddence" (although I prefer to call it "Time of Your Life"). I get emotional every time I hear that song... mainly because it reminds me of Seinfeld ending.

The newest CD by Josh Groban has a few (of course!) - "L'Ora Dell'Addio" (yes, in Italian but I understood it well enough to know it is about saying goodbye to someone you love, and how both "suffer" for it) and "Au Jardin de Sans-Pourquoi" (again, I could understand the French enough to get that it is about someone who has gone to heaven and the writer wants them to come back--plus the dedication "in memory of Kate McGarrigle" made that clear. It was written by her son Rufus Wainwright). Also, "The War at Home" and "London Hymn". This last one is a very short piece in Latin about remembering "the unquiet dead" and through that remembrance bringing them peace (it had the translation printed beneath the lyrics).

Savior, please take my hand I work so hard, I live so fast This life begins, and then it ends And I do the best that I can, but I don't know how long I'll last

I try to be so tough But I'm just not strong enough I can't do this alone, God I need You to hold on to me I try to be good enough But I'm nothing without Your love Savior, please keep saving me

Savior, please help me stand I fall so hard, I fade so fast Will You begin right where I end And be the God of all I am because You're all that I have

I try to be so tough But I'm just not strong enough I can't do this alone, God I need You to hold on to me I try to be good enough But I'm nothing without Your love Savior, please keep saving me

Hallelujah Everything You are to me Is everything I'll ever need And I am learning to believe That I don't have to prove a thing 'Cause You're the one who's saving me

I love many of your choices too, but especially all the Keith Green ones. As many know he's my all time favorite singer. It was his music that made me want to know more about Christianity, and eventually helped me make the choice that I too needed God in my life everyday! His music helped to change my life. Nice to see we have that in common. :)

Awesome! Praise God, man!:) I am a big fan of Keith Green as well- he has written some of the most convicting songs I've ever heard and some of the most joyous expressions of praise to God as well. "Asleep in the Light" is still one of my all time favorites- the best witnessing song I've ever heard.
And "Grace By Which I Stand" and "The Prodigal Son Suite"- WOW!
That is so great to hear of your love for Keith Green and his music and more importantly of your love for The Lord Jesus.:) Yes- I'm glad we have those things in common.

Bring The Rain - Mercy Me

I can count a million times People asking me how I Can praise You with all that I've gone through

The question just amazes me Can circumstances possibly Change who I forever am in You

Maybe since my life was changed Long before these rainy days It's never really ever crossed my mind

To turn my back on You, oh Lord My only shelter from the storm But instead I draw closer through these times

So I pray Bring me joy, bring me peace Bring the chance to be free Bring me anything that brings You glory

And I know there'll be days When this life brings me pain But if that's what it takes to praise You Jesus, bring the rain

I am yours regardless of The dark clouds that may loom above Because You are much greater than my pain

So I pray Bring me joy, bring me peace Bring the chance to be free Bring me anything that brings you glory

And I know there'll be days When this life brings me pain But if that's what it takes to praise You Jesus, bring the rain

Holy, holy, holy, holy, holy, holy Is the Lord God Almighty Is the Lord God Almighty

And I forever sing Holy, holy, holy, holy, holy, holy Is the Lord God Almighty Is the Lord God Almighty

Everybody sing it Holy, holy, holy, holy, holy, holy Is the Lord God Almighty Is the Lord God Almighty

You are holy, You are holy Lord, You are holy Is the Lord our God Is the Lord our God Almighty, yeah, yeah, yeah

Everybody sing it Holy, You are holy Oh, holy, holy, holy, yeah, yeah, yeah Is the Lord God Almighty Is the Lord God Almighty, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Holy, holy, holy, holy, holy, holy Is the Lord God Almighty Is the Lord God Almighty.
