I remember that show. Didn't they have a "chuckle patch", a squirrel and some sort of story chest?

The two women hosts were Carole Demas and Paula Janis. Carole originated the role of Sandy in the Broadway production of Grease. Both women are still close friends and perform together.

And while this show was created in no small part for the purpose of satisfying the mandates of groups like ACT (Action for Children's Television), ironically thanks to over a decade of reruns (shown again and again up to the late 1980's) The Magic Garden and its hosts have attained an iconic status on par with the old-line kiddie show hosts (who, on Channel 11, by 1972 were "Officer" Joe Bolton and "Captain" Jack McCarthy, the latter of St. Patrick's Day Parade fame) whom programs such as TMG were set out to replace. Of course that TMG started out in the "wild and crazy" '70's (that "chuckle patch," no doubt) didn't hurt much either.

I remember that show since I was a kid, that brings back memories. If you see "The Magic Garden", you'll gotta love this intro. It starts after the "Sanfod & Son" promo.

About 4 years ago at Thanksgiving time I recorded an incredible 2 hour documentary that WPIX/NY produced about the history of "The Magic Garden", it was followed by two original complete episodes.....really great stuff...

....there were at least 52 episodes produced over a three year period (1972-'75), and they're just waiting to be revived on home video. I'm sure Carole and Paula will make them available when the time is right........

I met Carole and Paula this past year. They performed at the Tribecca Film Festival, the family film venue. Anyway as I got their autograph. I asked them if the show would be available on DVD.

They actually then shouted to the crowd of the 30 something year old fans and answered that a release was scheduled tentatively for the fall. They assured their fans that all 52 episodes would be available on DVD at some point.

The 1970 - 80's soundtrack was rereleased on CD from the LP version. So it would make sense for them to release a show which was already available on VHS. I would suggest their website for further info. http://www.caroleandpaula.com/

She can't wait to get the DVDs and show them to her daughter.

Since this is a 3 disc dvd set with only 10,, 24 minute episodes, the third disc must be bonus material, maybe that 2002 tv special ???Maybe new interviews with Carole and Paula ???? :happyface
