View Full Version : "It's Just a TV Show..."It Was in the script"...give us a break
Ireneparalegal 03-26-2006, 06:58 PM Again on another forum I see the words posted "it's just a tv show."
It is really annoying and boring to see those words posted when a group of people are discussing shows, episodes, characters, etc. We know it's just a show...get off of our backs and let us be. It would be boring if all we discussed was "What's your fave character"...that gets dead.
I went to one of the forums I check out occasionally and there was that stupid phrase again.
Mijada 03-26-2006, 07:09 PM  I was just at the LHOTP board and saw the discussion you guys had about this. I agree with you though. The discrepancies that are in some of these shows can be so irritating. It amazes me how the writers don't see this or don't seem to care.

Yeah, I hate it when people say that. Makes me want to smack them as hard as I can upside the head. :smash: Good thing they're saying it from their computer, and not to my face. Sometimes when they say that, I want to say, "Yeah, and you're just an overly sensitive *******", so what's your point??
Brian Damage 03-26-2006, 09:11 PM What's the purpose of these forums then?
Janice 03-26-2006, 09:15 PM That drives me crazy when people say that we take our shows too seriously. I also hate it when someone chimes in with something like...."With a war going on....with world hunger...with all the world's problems...how can you discuss this?"
HELLO, this is SITCOMS ONLINE. It's not as if we're going to message boards that are discussing serious topics, and asking who was prettier, Mary Anne or Ginger?
gilligan fanatic 03-26-2006, 09:18 PM one thing is a fact though, we are not as weird as the regulars at the IMDB, they are crazy-lol

Yeah, I mean, we are fans who ask questions, want to know if others see things the way we see them, etc. It would get boring after awhile if we didn't tear these shows apart...LOL
I mean, I have seen Good Times since it's first run but I swear, I can still find stuff I never noticed before; it's also fun when someone else points things out you never caught.
Fleet 03-26-2006, 10:42 PM HELLO, this is SITCOMS ONLINE. It's not as if we're going to message boards that are discussing serious topics, and asking who was prettier, Mary Anne or Ginger?
For the LAST TIME, Mary Ann!!! ;) :D
Ireneparalegal 03-26-2006, 10:45 PM For the LAST TIME, Mary Ann!!! ;) :D
i was wondering what took you so long to post!!!
James"Thunder"Early 03-26-2006, 10:49 PM That is annoying when people say that. Shows have hundreds of episodes sometimes and there is alot to talk about and analyze.
dawsongirl 03-26-2006, 10:50 PM  I was just at the LHOTP board and saw the discussion you guys had about this. I agree with you though. The discrepancies that are in some of these shows can be so irritating. It amazes me how the writers don't see this or don't seem to care.
Totally. Their lack of caring about details pisses me off. Look moron, how hard is it to remember that you already used something/said soemthing/etc so that YOU DON'T DO IT AGAIN?!
And how hard is it to, while in editing, notice things like, in shot one his tie is tied, in shot 2 it's untied, in shot 3 it's tied again...and in 4...IT'S UNTIED AGAIN. :wallbang
And these people have degrees??
Ireneparalegal 03-26-2006, 11:01 PM They think we are "morons" and that we will not care or notice. but we do notice and if you were to email the shows or write them a letter, what good would it do? they already screwed up. I just don't get how they don't keep tabs on what character did this; what a character's ex-husband's name is; etc.
See, this is the stuff that is fun to analyze and tear apart. But "NOOOOOO" some people have to say crap like "it's just a show"...my response: Go Jump in a lake and DROWN!
Cashodeen 03-27-2006, 12:37 AM Yes! I get completely annoyed when there is an interesting discussion about tv show characters and storylines, especially certain contradictions that occur, and people chime in with "It's just a TV show," or "the writer's made a mistake." Of course it's a tv show! And of course writer's make mistakes! But when you love a series and become involved with the plots and the people, you like to make sense of it all. It adds realism to what you're watching. I like to make plausible reasons for when the writers change the story, rather than just shrugging it off as their mistake. I mean, of course I know ultimately it is their mistake, but it's a lot more fun and interesting to come up with conclusions or explanations. That's part of what tv show message boards are for.
I know I said basically all of this at the current Little House on the Prairie thread, but I had to say it again.

You put it very well. I mean, if it's just a t.v. show to these people, then why are they on a message board ABOUT TV SITCOMS?????? duh!!!!
MsOrange 03-27-2006, 02:15 PM good grief people it's just a TV show...

Don't worry... I posted as soon as I saw Mary Ann's name. :D
Sharop 03-28-2006, 02:06 PM Mistakes on TV shows don't usually bother me unless they're huge, glaring errors. Most of the time, I don't even notice them.
But I wouldn't criticise anyone else for discussing them.
