...I just heard that construction on the new Yankee Stadium starts in June of this year. It will be ready for opening day of 2009. The current Yankee stadium will be torn down and made into a park and parking lots.

Sadly, yes.

It's a shame to see the old ballparks go. But i guess some sacrifices must be made for luxury boxes.
Hopefully the new park will be as impressive as the original.

The only thing that gets me really excited about this is...

1. It will still be called Yankee Stadium and not some corporate name

2. It will resemble the original Yankee stadium of the 1920's before the fire.

Man thats a damn shame. i used to live right across the street from the stadium and even worked there when i was 17. It will be a shame to see it gone after all those memories.

The new park looks great, but it's still a shame that they're tearing down Yankee Stadium.:(

That sucks! I hope people in Chicago throw a fit if they ever try to tear down Wrigley Field.
