In the episode where Fred and Lamont go get chest x-rays because of Fred's longtime smoking, all they seem to worry about getting is Tuberculosis (TB) and not a word is mentioned about lung cancer. The episode aired early in 1972 and they did have the evidence about smoking and lung cancer from the 1964 Surgeon General's warnings. Why wouldn't the doctors and nurses even mention lung cancer? I know that people didn't think at the time about second hand cigarette smoke causing harm because when Lamont thinks he has TB, he doesn't mention a word about getting it from Fred's cigarette smoke.

Interesting topic, because I always wondered the same thing. They NEVER mention LUNG CANCER, and that seems the most deadly, but maybe TB was worse then(?) Not sure
