I watched a lot of Good Times episodes and I realized that Thelma and Michael acted WAY more mature than JJ, the oldest child. Shouldn't he be the most mature out of all of them? I remember one episode, JJ was cracking jokes in a serious unfunny moment(The kind of moment that you should NEVER crack jokes in) and Thelma is just looking at him with a look of disgust and is just standing quietly, looking mature, while JJ looked like an idiot. There was another time when Michael is seriously trying to study for a class and JJ is making stupid faces and stupid jokes........ I always wondered why JJ was the least mature out of all of them............

JJ might have been the least mature of the three, but his jokes and humor were needed to break up all the dramatics on the show.

it would have been real boring with out his antics, hence season 6

being the oldest doesn't mean you will always be the most mature.

sometimes they are the worst because they were the "first" and they usually got spoiled, etc. I like that NO SHYT!!!! that's a cool way of saying that word without spelling it out!!!

I thought Esther Rolle left in season 5 because of how JJ acted. And then she came back because they wrote JJ not to be as immature and goofy.

That was the biggest reason why she left because of the whole J.J. routine. It was too extreme and it gave off negative images. As I watch the show now I find J.J. quite annoying but in season 6 he became more likable. He was still funny but not standing looking like an immature idiot.

He was mature in season 5 too which is when we saw the BLUE HAT only once and not at all in season 6.

Maybe it was because he was too scrawny to do anything more than joke his way out of stuff (and can you imagine the street cred he'd have had as an artist?) while Thelma could use her beauty to charm and Michael just wouldn't back down!
Then again, maybe the Blue Hat was a brain-drain!

What was really strange was when he was in the "caught-between-joker-and-adult" stage in season 4. He started wearing a suit jacket and slacks, but STILL WORE the DAMN blue hat-lol.

I know-lol That blue hat killed the conservative dress style of the suit jacket and the slacks. That' like wearing DRESS SHOES with Sweat Pants-LOL
