During the past Sanford and Son Marathon, on the episode "Sanford and Son and Sister make Three" Fred seemed to make a rather off color remark (even for the 70's.) As he takes off the smoking jacket and throws it at Ja'net Dubois, he said, "Here--take this ***gedy (or raggedy) jacket." I know TV Land edits the hell out of these episodes, but I could have sworn it was the former. Anyone know what was actually said?

Esther also said the "N" word on the show as well.

I knew I wasn't the only one that heard that. I thought he said fa ggedy. Also, moee, Fred said Ni gga too. But TVLand always edits the word. It's on the DVDs as you know.

Maybe this just goes to show us that, like it or not, the early- to mid-1970s were not a time of "Political Correctness".

Sure, he said "f a g goty" referring to the jacket. He used the "N" word in several episodes, as did Esther. People talked that way then. Hell, they talk that way now, only we're not supposed to acknowledge that, I guess.

I guess the reason it caught my attention was that in previous episodes, Fred would use that little hand gesture when referring to gays. I read somewhere Redd Foxx would adlib a lot of his dialogue, so I think this might fall into that category.
