Police: Fast-Food Clerk Climbs Through Window, Goes After Customer

Teen Accused Of Burglary, Assault

DAVIE, Fla. -- A clerk at a Burger King was arrested after police say a disagreement with a customer turned into a brawl.

Kevin and Dana Gillis of Pembroke Pines were in the Davie drive-through with their three daughters on March 18.

Dana Gillis said that the clerk, 18-year-old Michael Perez, was rude and snatched the money from her husband's hand. Then when Kevin Gillis tried to hand Perez some extra change in exchange for bills, Perez said he didn't want the change, and the men exchanged angry words, according witnesses.

At that point, the Gillises said, Perez climbed through the drive-through window and punched Kevin Gillis in the face. Dana Gillis said when she climbed out of the truck, Perez started after her until he was tackled by Kevin Gillis.

Other Burger King employees called police. Perez was charged with burglary and battery. He is being held without bond.

Burger King has not yet commented on the incident, but Local 10 has learned that Perez had been on the job for only a few days before the incident.

When I was working at Target during the 1997 Christmas season an actual brawl broke out between one of my co-workers and a customer (or "guests" as we were supposed to call them). They were slugging each other and rolling around on the floor... If I hadn't seen it with my own two eyes I don't think that I ever would have believed it.

Burglary is also legally defined as breaking and entering in some states, so the fact that he broke his way thru the customer's vehicle may be why.
