View Full Version : Are there any step-family members or Half-siblings in your family?
Ireneparalegal 03-22-2006, 06:26 PM My father married almost 15 years after my mom died and he and his wife had a son. So I have one half-brother, aside from my sister. My oldest brother died in 2002.
I have two step-daughters ages 27 and 22, they each have one daughter. So, I guess that makes me a step-grandparent... :D
my two daughters (ages 17 and 22) are step-daughters to my man. My man and I have a son (4 years old)...so my daughters have a half-brother, but they don't consider them a half-brother...in their eyes and hearts, he is their full brother.
I consider my half-brother my HALF brother only because his mother brainwashed him into thinking we are not fully related therefore, he is MORE SPECIAL to our father. I had hoped he would see how wrong that was for her to do that, but even though he is 30 years old, he kinda has this resentment towards me and my sister for HAVING OUR FATHERS' LOVE MORE THAN HIM.
Our father passed away in 2004 and he was special and loving and he never made anyone of us feel different from the other. He loved us all with all his heart. My sister, my late brother and I were adopted and my father would get upset when people referred to us as NOT BLOOD RELATED. He always made it a point that we were HIS CHILDREN NO MATTER WHAT.
James"Thunder"Early 03-22-2006, 06:34 PM One half-sister, 16 years older than me. She's nice, but she always seemed a bit resentful because our dad was around me growing up and because she didn't have two parents like I did. She's never done anything rude, she just gives off vibes. My dad has never called us half-siblings, just regular brother and sister.
GARFIELDKOOL 03-22-2006, 06:56 PM I have 3 half-brothers that are around my age that I know of because my father was unfaithful. Does that count, Irene?
Brieannas21 03-22-2006, 06:58 PM Nope, I'm an only child. My parents married each other when they were young and I'm their first and only child. So I'm very very very spoiled.:) :D
Jo_Luvs_Ketchup 03-22-2006, 07:40 PM I know I have step brothers/sisters out there somewhere but I don't know specifics, I never met them:(
Michael [hXc] 03-22-2006, 08:09 PM i have 3 step sisters and 1 step brother. my dad got remarried. two of my step sisters are a year older than me (15), and the other one is 18. my step brother is 20. i see all of them regularly when i go to my dad's house on weekends. i get along with all of them.
i also have a bunch of step cousins (my stepmom's nieces and nephews) and one of them is in my grade at school, one of them is a year behind us. the others are either a lot older or a lot younger.
Polniaczek033 03-22-2006, 09:24 PM I have a half sister who's 21. My mom had her with her first husband and then they divorced and remarried and had me a few years later. I've always considered my half sister my sister because I never really remember her dad being around when we were younger.. plus, she's always lived with us anyways.
gilligan fanatic 03-22-2006, 09:26 PM Nope :)

Georgia's on my Mind 03-22-2006, 10:37 PM No.
gidgetgrape 03-22-2006, 10:51 PM One half-sister, 16 years older than me. She's nice, but she always seemed a bit resentful because our dad was around me growing up and because she didn't have two parents like I did. She's never done anything rude, she just gives off vibes. My dad has never called us half-siblings, just regular brother and sister.
That's my exact situtation except my half-sister is 15 years older than me. I didn't find out we were half sisters until I was 12 or 13. I'm really that bad at math, I guess. :) Even before I found out though, I always felt like there was something between us. I grew up like an only child because we never lived in the same house.
dawsongirl 03-23-2006, 02:33 AM Me, no. I'm an only child and my parents are still married.
My dad, yes. Technically he has some step....somethings out there somewhere that belong to his *shivers* step-father. I think if they all put their brains together, they'd have almost one. At least that's what I've heard...I don't know the people nor do I care to meet them. They aren't my family. By the time my grandmother married that thing she married, my dad and uncles were all grown and out of the house, so it's not like they were ever a "family" anyway.
Can you tell I don't like my grandma's husband?? I don't even consider him my grandfather. My cousin does, but that's her problem.
Jo_Luvs_Ketchup 03-23-2006, 02:45 AM I know I have step brothers/sisters out there somewhere but I don't know specifics, I never met them:(
After I posted this earlier, I have been thinking all day about them. I haven't seen or spoken to my father in almost 5 years in April and I wonder how many there are, what are their names? It's sooo weird and I never thought about it until today..
Brent88 03-23-2006, 03:47 AM My mom has a half-sister. They have different fathers... the half-sister is 10 years older than her.
That's the only occurrence in my immediate family.
Mr. Stefani 03-23-2006, 03:50 AM I have my step dad, 2 step sisters and a step brother. I consider my step brother to be like a brother to me, we've been close a while now, he moved in 2 years ago.
I apparently have a half brother and sister, but I dont care about that side of the "family".
Pitooey 03-23-2006, 09:59 AM I have two half sisters/two half brothers who are older than me. I've met the brothers but I've never met the sisters. :(
*MIBabe03* 03-23-2006, 11:47 AM Well I don't have any half siblings at all, and my parents are still married.
However, my mom's got quite a few. She has 4 half brothers, and one half sister. My grandfather had been married 3 times before my grandma. The first marriage produced 1 son. The 3rd marriage produced 3 sons, although the youngest died when he was 10. Her half sister is from my grandma, who had her out of wedlock.
Southern Hellraiser 03-23-2006, 02:22 PM Yep, I have a step sister who is in her late 20's and I have a 5 year old step nephew.
TheHappyBurgerMeister 03-23-2006, 09:04 PM Nope. My parents have been married almost 29 years and never married to anyone else. I do have cousins/aunts/uncles where there's some step parents and children, but just not in my immediate family.
TheHappyBurgerMeister 03-23-2006, 09:11 PM Also, I guess you could say I technically have a step grandma. My dad's real mother died back in 1982 from cancer. That was a year before I was born so I never knew her. Then a year later my grandpa married Geneva and they were married until his death in 1996. No one that I know of in my family has ever referred to her as a step grandma or step mom we just all called her by her first name. I don't know if it really counts because when they got married all the kids were grown with kids and even grandkids. Plus, we all know that my grandpa and her were never as close with each other as my grandma and grandpa were. I guess there were some things going on and it just wasn't the same. I don't know. She's still alive and lives where her daughter. I haven't seen her since my grandma's funeral. She just turned 90. My aunt still talks to or her daughter (so I guess there's step aunts and uncles too maybe?- not sure how many kids she has) at least because she's sometimes "not all there" -hence being 90.
I have two stepsisters and one stepbrother. They are all older than my brothers and me. The youngest, Wendy is 8 years older than me. My stepbrother (who's totally cool) and my brother are both named Steve, so writing tags on Christmas gifts is always challenging . We don't see our other stepsister Sue much but she is very nice.
Im a big deal 03-25-2006, 11:59 AM i had a half brother that used to live with me. he called me his sister even though we werent. he called he his sister even in front of his other sisters. but he introduces them as his step sisters to everybody.
i just confused myself.....
