have a contest to see who gets all the green stamps? Come on now, the boys could have kept their green stamps and the girls kept theirs. The ones that Alice had been bringing home could have been split down the middle. The girls could have gotten what was available for them to get with their stamps and the same with the boys. Ok, so the boys didn't have enough stamps for their rowboat, big deal, live with it. Get something else. I would rather get something else than have a contest and LOSE ALL MY STAMPS!!! Same with the girls, get something all three of you share. Even better would have been that the stamps could have been split 6 ways with each kid getting something they each wanted. That contest was so stupid. I can't tell you how that episode IRKS ME. OR!!!! The parents could have just put their foot down and said "we are getting something for the whole family!" Stupid how that was thought of at the end.

Yeah.. I agree with that.. I really don't think the girls would have picked out something for the whole family unless Carol was pushing them.

Why didn't the family think of a t.v. before? I would know right off the bat if a t.v. was needed in the house. Especially with six kids!!!!

Yes, that was a pretty bone-headed thing to do. I thought they should have just divided up the stamps too.

Actually, they advised for the kids split them. But they refused. They insisted on having a contest to win the whole lot.

I thought it was unrealistic that none of the kids had ever bothered to open that one kitchen drawer. All it contained was stamps.

it wasn't unrealistic...they had a housekeeper/cook, so unless they had to wash dishes or grab a snack, no reason for them to open a drawer. For kids to have insisted upon something, is crazy. Parents should have put their foot down and said "No." you share those stamps.

The thing that bugged me about this ep was that card house the kids built. I mean come on, how the heck can a bunch of kids build a card house 5 or 6 stories tall? Whenever I tried to build one, the whole thing would come crashing down before I even finished the second level.

One thing that is slightly interesting about this episode (to me) is that it starts off with the kids at the kitchen table surrounded by empty milk bottles. I guess they were trying to emphasize that the family bought a lot of groceries. I don't know how poor Mike paid all the imaginery bills.

I tried to build one too after seeing that episode. It crashed, of course.
There was a Nick at Nite commercial about the house. When Greg knocks the house down, two cards tip over slightly and remain standing like they were taped or glued together.

I know it's corny, but I still like this episode. :)

They sure drunk a lot of milk, didn't they. Even Mike and Carol.

I use a program that came installed on my computer called InterVideo WinDVD Player. You just put your DVD in and when you see what you want to capture you hit the P key and the program saves the image as a .bmp file.

Yeah, that's funny when that happens... and, just as the camera is fading out in that scene, after the cards go down, Robert Reed tried to push the last couple of cards down, but they pop right back up (they were wired).. he tries it two or three times during the fade out...

I have something called VLC Media player that plays DVDs on my computer. The picture on playback is not to clear but this program has a snapshot function too, and you can slow the screen right down to get good shots. It'll save each picture in your "My Pictures" folder, as a jpeg file. The picture quality is nice and clear.

Speaking of Mike & Carol being stupid in the area of kids' contests, what about the driving contest. Marcia and Greg were resigned to call the whole driving thing a draw when Mike said, "Maybe there is a way to resolve this" and suggested the obstacle course. Dad was usually pretty smart, but I think that was one of the dumbest things he ever did.

Plus, I can't believe how they actually stopped the film as Marcia's car was approaching the cone, making it looked like she stopped the car on a dime, a mere inch-and-a-half from the target. A lot of people could win obstacle course contests with THAT kind of help!

(Maybe Mike was secretly rooting for Greg, so he devised a contest he tought Greg could win easily)...
