Ever since the series first run, I notice that when Mike walks into the kitchen and sees the chart of all the kids' illnesses, he points out to Carol that none of the children have had a shot for "this distemper" when his mouth appears to really be saying "rabies". It is then that Alice corrects him stating that is Tiger's shot that he is looking at. I wonder if it was one of those "factual errors" that Robert despised so much and had the audio changed so he could say "distemper" (which means viral infection for dogs) rather than rabies. It was only a few years back that i figured out what he was saying ( mind you, I am 40, so it was a long time figuring what he was saying).:crazy:

I have noticed this too! (Actually, just saw it today, watching it on TV Land. Even though I have the first four seasons on DVD.) It's actually not "this temper", it's "distemper", which is a dog disesase that is similar to rabies. Robert Reed's mouth clearly DOES NOT MATCH the spoken words, and at least on the TV Land print, they cut away very quickly after Mike says, "distemper" to Alice saying, "That's Tiger's column. Might as well keep a record for the vet." Anyone care to watch the DVD for clearer video to see what the two of us are seeing.

Glad this was brought up! I personally think the whole sequence with Carol and Alice doing the "illness chart" was almost like a time-filler. Mike comes in and what anyone watching would ask is why are Alice and Carol doing this? Alice and Carol fill them in and Mike goes, "The doctors can keep records that they can transfer from one to the other." It's not the WORST scene by a long shot. BUT the whole lines about Tiger being on the chart was "unrealistic." The same is true with the "distemper" line or rabies (if that was the original scripted word in that sequence). All of those lines could have and should have been dumped.

That is SO COOL that you remember watching The Brady Bunch from the first run!!! As you may know, I helped us work on the thread. "Scenes no longer aired" which is a comparison/ contrast of scenes edited/restored from Brady Bunch's TV Land/Syndicated prints. I also did my best to include totally restored scenes that are on the DVD's that aren't found anywhere else. Check it out! Feel free to add to it! It may not be 100% accurate, but when I get the Season 5 DVD in a couple of weeks, I plan to help us add to that thread.

I don't HAVE ANY SEASON ON DVD!:eek: I know it's crazy. I watch the show on TVland and watching those I just remember what was cut out and what was edited. I was a huge brady bunch fan when it first came out. It came out of Fridays at 8pm and I always made sure i was in the house so I wouldn't miss anything. My friend has the DVD and I watched that measles episode because i wanted to know what that word was that Mike was saying. That's how i found out it was DISTEMPER. :wave:

because any true brady fan knows that the actor was a shakespearean (sp?) trained, and he was very specific abt certain things. He had an issue abt the "smell of strawberries" when Carol and Alice were making strawberry preserves in an episode; he was nitpicking. He wanted things to be as realistic as possible. He probably felt that saying "rabies" was unfathomable in this day and age; or it was kooky to have a family dog carry the rabie infection without ever having been in contact with an animal that carried it. So he probably had an issue with using that word and they decided to use something Robert would rather say.

That seems strange to me. While I wouldn't expect a raccoon to show up on a sound stage, there was definitely a need for rabies shots in the Los Angeles suburbs.
