I wonder if Cousin Oliver would have been apart of the opening credits in someway if he would have been apart of the sixth season? I don't think so.

BTW, does anyone else think it's weird that they called him "Cousin Oliver" more than "Oliver"? Who talks like that? I know they were trying to establish his relationship to the family, but it seems like they overdid it.

I think they would have did episodes about Greg adjusting to college life. He might have moved into a dorm room, but decided that he liked living at home better. Marcia could have taken a college class with Greg as apart of a new program at her high school. That would have caused some conflict.

Maybe Mrs. Brady could have (shutter) gotten a job outside the home. I'm not sure about the rest of the cast.

I've heard that regardless, Robert Reed was out for season 6. So, Mike would have been off designing a building in some far off country. They may have gotten him to do a cameo or two just to keep him in the credits. Kind of like they did Mr. Kotter in the final days of Welcome Back Kotter (Gabe Kaplan nearly vanished!).

-They'd have kept Greg at home to make up for Robert Reed's abscence. They'd need him to keep the story lines interesting in Mike's abscence.

-We'd have seen Peter and Jan start driving as some of the older Greg and Marsha storylines were recycled.

-Cindy would have her "first kiss" with some horn-rimmed shaggy haired school chum.

-Marcia would have a graduation crisis like Greg's hair brained scheme (another recycled story line).

-Alice would still be waiting for Sam to propose.

-Cousin Oliver would've gotten a story line or two all to himself (and would still be called Cousin Oliver). BTW, I've never known somebody address their cousin as "Cousin Joe" or "Cousin Patty".

I think it is so precious that so many of you Bradymaniacs, like me, fantasize about a possible 6th season of the Brady Bunch.

And after analyzing my own feelings of fondness for the show and why it is that I longed for it never to have ended, I realized that, in fact, it didn't.

Sure, there wasn't a 6th season, but that just gave everyone a well-deserved year off from the show. By 1976, however, the gang was back, looking better than ever. Eve Plumb, meanwhile, had the best couple years of her acting career, before returning for her stint in the 1980 "Brady Brides," with Maureen.

Of course, we had the late 80's Christmas show, followed by the dramedy "The Brady's," all manner of reunions, pop culture homages, the hilarious movies and, now, this wonderful forum.

In short, "The Brady Bunch" lives on, in no small part, due to us, the fans.

Who needed a 6th season, when you think about it?

I heard that they were going to kill Mike Brady off the show. I don't see that ever happening in the world of the Bradys. If I were in charge of the sixth season (which would have been kind of hard, seeing as I wasn't born until 1981) I would have done this:

-Mike Brady accepts a job out of the country. It's only for a year, so he decides to take it and leave the family where they are. However, Carol would constantly be talking to him on the phone. He would even make at least two guest appearances. Mike would not just be forgotten.

-Greg would move out and go to college. Marcia would get his attic bedroom. Greg would make around six guest appearances in the season.

-Cousin Oliver would stay with the Bradys. At the start of the season, Oliver's parents died. So Carol (and an absent Mike) adopt Oliver, at some point in the season. This would be sort of like My Three Sons. How the oldest moves out and gets replaced by the new youngest. Where the other two sons move up a notch.

-Marcia, Peter, Jan, Bobby and Cindy would be the same as they had been the season before.

-Sam would have a bigger role. Although he still wouldn't propose .. yet.

-Don Knotts would play the role of Fred Brady, Mike's brother. He would come to live with the family to watch after them, while Mike is away.

-The finale would find Marcia graduating and getting ready for college. Greg would return for the last one and hopefully so would Mike (even though he missed Greg's graduation). Sam and Alice would finally get married, which the proposal and wedding would be in the same episode.

If for some reason, the show came back for a seventh and Robert Reed didn't return, then we'd kill off his character. But I'm assuming the sixth would have been the last (especially if it was done my way, ;) ).

They also could have pulled a "My Three Sons" or a "Hazel"...

(M3S)... Greg would go off to college, but never be heard from, or even mentioned again... Pete would move up to Greg's old spot in the grid, Bobby would move up to Peter's, and Oliver would appear in Bobby's old spot. Mike and Carol would still tell all their friends that they have six kids... Peter would be introduced by Mike as his "oldest son". And "Oh, and you know Oliver, our youngest..."... Barry Williams could go hang out somewhere with Tim Considine and the guys who played Chuck Cunningham.

OR

(Hazel)... Mike AND Carol could have gone overseas, and left the kids at home...but not just with Alice, oh no... Steve Brady (Mike's brother) and his wife Linda would move into the Brady house, and take over running the family as though they'd been the parents all the time. And the kids would all treat them the same way they treated Mike and Carol...

"Tabu, Too". While surfing, Greg finds that the evil tiki idol from the Hawaii episodes has washed ashore. Bad luck ensues - Bobby falls from the treehouse again, Carol is struck with larangytis again, Jan loses reelection for Miss Popularity, and Alice sprains her foot for a third time.

"A Mouse in the House". Myron the mouse from "The Impractical Joker" is back; unfortunately for the Bradys, he's brought friends.

"Where There's Toke". Jan catches Greg smoking marijuana this time, and Tommy's mother, Mrs. Johnson, is in hot pursuit.

"Getting Davy Jones Again". Davy, annoyed when Marcia keeps using that framed letter to rope him into performing at school events, plots to break into the Brady house and steal the letter back. He enlists the help of Desi Arnaz Jr. in this "Mission: Impossible"-type episode.

"Kelly's Kids, Plus One". Tired of the overcrowding in the Brady household, Mike and Carol plot to get neighbors Ken and Kathy Kelly to adopt Oliver.

"Will the Real Cindy Brady Please Stand Up?" Tired of being compared to Marcia and Jan, Cindy shaves her head bald.

All of the episodes SOUND GREAT! Now I wish there was a sixth season ... :)

They probably would have just found someone new to play Mike Brady. Robert Reed may be gone, but Mike Brady is NOT.

You mentioned Carol talking to him on the phone; this way the costs of the long distance calls would be less and they would not accumulate a bill the size of the national debt. :D

You don't think they would've found a guy suitable enough to be Mike Brady? I mean, come on folks, just because Robert Reed left, does Not, I repeat, DOES NOT mean that Mike Brady did. I'm sure they would've found someone just as good as Reed or maybe better.

Other ideas for (fictional) season 6:

Sam would have his own square and be a regular, rather than a guest star.

Oliver would have his own square as well and he would be a regular.

They would just have change the theme song a little bit and make it longer to ackowledge Oliver and Sam being stars, instead of guest stars.

Another idea would be to add a girl cousin, this time from Mike's side of the family.

That way there would be 4 kids of each gender, 4 boys and 4 girls.

And remember the sleeping arrangements? It was obviously in order of age. It was like this: Greg had the bed by the window, Peter had the top bunk, and Bobby had the bottom bunk. Than Greg got the attic, Peter got Greg's old bed, and Bobby had his own bed by the door. Than when Oliver moved in, the bunkbeds came back, and Bobby got the top bunk, Oliver got the bottom bunk, and Peter stayed by the window. Thats alot of trivia about the sleeping arrangements!


The girls never changed their arrangements. Marcia's bed was by the door, Jan bed was next to the lamp and close to the window, and Cindy's bed was in-between the window and the work desk. Than, in fictional season 6, Marcia got the attic, Jan got Marcia's old bed, Cindy got Jan's old bed and the girl cousin got Cindy's old bed.


Sam moved in and he and Alice slept together in the same room Alice had for years. They will stay there for a while, until they find a place of their own. And we actually get to see the bathroom we always thought Alice had!


Mike & Carol stayed in the same master bedroom they had together since they were married. Only in this fictional season 6, we finally get to see the master bathroom.

And if that weren't enough, we'll get to see the bathroom that is next to the staircase and the cellar/basement the Peter mentioned in "Confessions, Confessions".

Except the kids would call them Uncle Steve and Aunt Linda, not Mom and Dad. And Sam would move into the Brady house as well, to be with Alice, and to help her and the kids when they either needed it or Steve & Linda were too busy with other things. And it would be the same way the other way around.

With Mike out of the picture the family would probably have to move, maybe
to one of Carol's relatives in the mid-west. The kids would have to help out
on the farm which could be very funny. They would also stick out when they
enrolled in the local school. Of course Alice would come along and try to keep up a long distance romance with Sam.

I have entertained the thought of Sherwood Schwartz's original choice for Mike, namely Gene Hackman, as taking over for Robert Reed.

You're probably right. Except, in "The Brady Girls Get Married", Alice said she and Sam had been married almost 4 years. Since the movie took place in early '81, they would have gotten married in '77.

Well buddy, you're right about Marcia getting the attic. Uncle Jack and Aunt Pauline, Cousin Oliver's parents, will come and take Oliver home after Uncle Jack's 4-month engineering project ends. Sam & Alice did not get married until 1977, but Sam will now be a star, instead of a guest star. Oliver and his parents would be recurring stars. Greg will go to college with Hank Carter ( from " A Room at the Top"), while their college is right in town. Mike's business trip was short. So, of course Mike will be on the show. Bobby will now start going to Filmore Middle School, and going on dates with girls, and liking it, too. Cindy will be in her last year at Clinton Avenue Elementary School, and she'll start going out on dates with boys. Peter and Jan will be freshman at Westdale High School, and acting differently than they did before. The Brady's, along with Alice & Sam, will go on vacation to Disney Land.

Who the heck wants to see the Brady's bathroom?

I'm sure they mucked it up just like the rest of us do in ours!

Can any of you all rack your brains and think of a 1976 actor who looked like Reed? I can't but there's got to be somebody to replace him. There would be more baseball stories as I think the Dodgers were a hot team back then. A Kareem Abdul Jabbar episode too. A couple of Marcia vs. Jan episodes, even one where Jan one-ups Marcia. Carol restarts her career (whatever that is). Sam proposes to Alice and they get married in the season ending cliffhanger. Peter starts dating one of Jan's friends and that ticks Jan off.

Well Greg would have been to college. Marcia would have come to the decision that she wants to pursue a career in design and is checking into colleges.

Peter and Jan start 10th grade. Jan is popular and Peter dates one of Greg's old HS girlfriends who happens to be a senior and Marcia is not thrilled when Peter suggests that they double date with Marcia and her date for the senior prom. Jan and Marcia run for homecoming queen.

Greg considers taking off a semester to pursue a career in music. Bobby begins seventh grade and has to deal with the "wasn't your brother Peter Brady? syndrome". Cindy finds out that she is able to skip a grade and then joins Bobby in the seventh grade.

Sam's mother meets Alice and decides that he can do better.

Mike would not die, but he would be working on a disney project in orlando, fl for Disney--EPCOT Center. He would appear in the first three episodes with a free trip to Disney's Magic Kingdom and they stay at the Contemporary Hotel Resort. Oliver tags along but in the tradition of the disney cliched storyline themes, he is missing after messing up a chance for Mr. Brady in regards to his work for the park.

Carol would deal with having to raise six kids (Greg out, Oliver in) while pursuing a career in real estate.

Greg would have a room at one of the local dorms and attend UCLA.

Greg's college roomate makes a play for Marcia.

The Kelly Kids help Oliver adjust in a new year of school.

Carol's handsome real estate coach shows some interest in her.

Marcia would get the attic over Peter. He did not stand a chance.

Peter is accused of cheating and learns that he may have to repeat the 10th grade. He also wants the attic for the next year.

Cindy and Bobby wind up double dating.

I like that Disney World idea. We find out that Mike had a hand in designing the Contemporary Resort and Disney wants him to design their next few hotels. Bumping Cindy up a grade is a great idea; I couldn't think of a good storyline for her, that certainly works. I still say get rid of Oliver, that dumb kid doesn't belong in the Bunch.

In the episode Welcome Aboard oliver is in the top bunk and that is key to the scene.
