What is it?

Ann has an extremely bad cold. She can't hear at all. She is expecting a very important phone call (from Donald? or her agent... I can't remember). The phone never rings but she continually picks up the receiver saying, "Hello, hello!" It's great. Even if somebody had been on the other end, she would have never heard them. It's the innocence, spunk and beauty that worked together so very, very well.

The scene I like best is the one that occurs in the episode that has Donald entertaining a job offer from Trixie Weatherby, an older, very wealthy, (and very man-hungry) woman who, Ann rightfully suspects, has designs on getting Donald for herself!

Ann and Don have had an argument about the situation, and,returning to Ann's apartment that night after having dinner at Trixie's, the argument resumes. Don takes Ann by the shoulders and she angrily pulls away and starts cleaning the floor with a carpet sweeper. Ann always has to do something physical whenever she's upset, she tells a puzzled Donald.

Harmony is restored as Don reassures Ann that his heart belongs only to her, and they embrace and tenderly engage in an all-is-well kiss. Cue the romantic music, when suddenly, Ann quickly pulls away and again starts furiously going after dirt with the carpet sweeper. "NOW WHAT'S THE MATTER ?!" Donald asks in complete confusion.

The linchpin of the whole scene is Ann's wearily virtue-honoring answer: "Right now I have the urge to do something VERY physical and at this time of night I think I'd better stick to the carpet sweeper..."

So well, written, paced and acted! We all know that in TV Land in the 60's, you did not promote or even hint at pre-marital sex AT ALL, and yet this scene seems to slyly address the fact that these two good-looking people definitely have desires for each other but, yes,it is mighty difficult to maintain those moral values some of us may have been brought up with!

The one where the car gets stuck & Donald gets behind it to push; she gives
it the gas and covers him in mud.

And the one where she stays overnight at her parents & gets trapped in a
fold-up bed in the basement.
