Oscar-winning actress Maureen Stapleton died Monday at her home in Lenox, Mass.

A funeral director says Stapleton died of natural causes at the age of 80.

Stapleton worked mostly as a stage actress.

She won her Oscar playing anarchist Emma Goldman in the 1981 movie “Reds.” She was also well known for her role in “Cocoon.”

Stapleton was born in Troy in 1925.

Geez! I almost had a heart attack when I scrolled down and saw just the word "Stapleton." I thought Jean Stapleton had died. :eek: I love Jean Stapleton. :(

She was in a movie that nobody else but me remembers -- Trading Mom (http://imdb.com/title/tt0111470/) (1994). That movie really sucked. :lol: Oh well. RIP Maureen.

Maureen Stapleton, whose lengthy career included Oscar, Emmy, Golden Globe and Tony wins, died Monday (March 13). Stapleton was 80.

According to media reports, Stapleton died from chronic pulmonary disease.

Born in Troy, New York, Stapleton moved to the New York City and began her theatrical training at the Herbert Berghof Acting School before moving on to the Actor's Studio. Stapleton picked up her first Tony in 1951 as the original Serafina in Tennessee Williams' "The Rose Tattoo." Her second Tony would come 20 years later for "The Gingerbread Lady." She was nominated for four additional Tonys over the years.

Stapleton was nominated for Emmys in five decades. The first of her seven nominations came in 1959 for "All the Kings Men" and the last was in 1996 for "Road to Avonlea." Her lone win was in 1968 for "Among the Paths to Eden."

On the big screen, Stapleton was restricted mostly to supporting roles, but even if she was restricted to a matronly bit part, she was able to put her own stamp on the role. She earned supporting actress Oscar nominations for 1958's "Lonelyhearts," 1970's "Airport" (a Golden Globe-winning role) and 1978's "Interiors." In 1982, she won her lone Oscar for her memorable turn as anarchist Emma Goldman in "Reds."

Other credits for Stapleton included "Cocoon," "Johnny Dangerously," "The Money Pity" and "Addicted to Love."

Stapleton is survived by her two children, Daniel Allentuck and Katharine Bambery.

a certain age, it seems that more and more people u know, and people that u know from tv only, start to pass away....
or maybe u just start to notice it more, as u get closer yourself......
