View Full Version : OT: Re-authoring a disc with TMPEGEnc

Sorry for the off-topic post, but I figured there would be quite a few DVDR traders here. Is anyone here familiar with TMPEGEnc DVD Author? More specifically, does anyone know if audio/video quality suffers when a disc is re-authored through TMPEGEnc? For what its worth, I'm having TMPEGEnc read the files from the disc directly rather than reconstructing the MPEG on my harddrive. I figured this should keep encode/re-encode issues to a minimum. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Justin

Yeah, VOB format alright. And yes, I'm trying to re-do menus. So, I'm guessing there will be no loss since I'm not re-encoding?

Thanks,
Justin

naw all your doing is just importing it then adding menus.. it will just be bigger file all together but not by to much.. menus dont take up that much room..

I use iDVD which is like the so-called Mac version of TMPEGEnc. Let's you create menu's and it has a DVD Author. But it doesn't only burn .vob files. It will also burn: .mpg .mov .avi .mpeg4 .vob, etc. But it will NOT burn .wmv files, that's a big no no.

well if u have those formats u are soposed to use tmpeg plus to convert it to m2v files.. or if u have a dvd already just import the vobs to author..

No you don't understand, with iDVD you don't need to convert it to .vob at all, it burns the file whether it's .vob, .m2v or not.

vobs are what u get on every dvd once its finished.. go take a dvd movie or whatver.. put it in your rom/burner whatever explore the dvd.. your gonna see a video_ts and an audio ts folder.. audio_ts always empty. but video ts u will see all vts files. now if u make your computer show the file extention of each file it will say .vob cause thats dvd format. i understand what you are talking about too. the program u talking about you throw any file in and it converts it automatically to vob files before it burns. because everything has to be vob, vts, etc when its finally on dvd.. unless its dvdrom.. then u can put whatever you want. but that only plays in dvd players compatable with wmv, vcd, svcd and divx. every dvd thats in film/movie/regular format has a video_ts folder and a Audio_ts folder.. inside video_ts is vob files.. no movie or video dvd is with another format that doesnt include those ones.. some standalone burners include an extra folder. ok here is a better question for justin.. is this stuff already on dvd???? like actual dvd with video_ts folder in it or is it a dvdrom with just a bunch of random mpeg files in it? because if its just like a regular dvd with those folders in it.. you have no need for it to be mpeg.. its vob vts blah blah blah.. so all u do is load it and when your done it will just reformat those vob vts etc formats with the menus in it this time and little bigger of a file..

Hi Kristin, what version of idvd are you using. I am using idvd 6.01 and get any .vob files to import. Can you elaborate on importing .vob files into
idvd.

Thanks,
sloan

It must be a file that QuickTime Player can play.

i.e. .mpeg4 .avi .mov

by the way my name is not Kristin, I am Kristin Herrera's # 1 Fan :)

Thanks for your reply. I didn't think you could import vob files to idvd, unless
they are re-encoded. You can't just drop vob files into idvd.
