Time Warner Cable Drops GSN in N.Y.

Anthony Crupi

MARCH 08, 2006 -

Time Warner Cable has informed subscribers in its New York market that it is dropping GSN next week.

A spokesperson for the MSO said that Time Warner recently underwent a "periodic review of its packages," and in so doing, decided that GSN did not meet its criteria of "the highest quality [programming] and widest array of choices at reasonable prices."

The operator has not determined which network will find a new home on GSN's former slot (channel 117). Recently, Time Warner moved Fox Sports Net NY from its analog lineup (channel 26) to a digital tier to make room for its new Mets net SportsNet NY.

Time Warner will also drop GSN from its Binghamton, N.Y., lineup. Meanwhile, other systems are considering moving GSN to a special digital tier.

GSN reaches 58.3 million households.

I have GSN on channel 110 on Time Warner Cable in Kingston, NY. I don't see GSN dropping its channel anytime soon.

Same here, it's 110 for me. I called time warner last night regarding gsn where I live and he said it's gonna remain on he thinks so I assume it's just in New York City, however the article just said NY.

Guess we'll see next week!

I'm a subscriber, and they sure didn't notify me. I'll admit I don't watch the channel a hell of a lot, but I'd rather have it than not have it. There are a bunch of channels on the digital tier not in use, and I can think of a dozen networks they can get rid off if they want to drop something.

GSN is actually on a lower analog channel here, anyone who has expanded basic can get it. Strange how its on expanded basic here and you need a digital tier to get it there.

Looks like this is true. Just got the latest cable bill and there's a note that says as of May 1, GSN will be dropped from TWCNYC. But then again, they also said they'd drop the Black Family Channel when we got TV-One, and Black Family Channel is still on the lineup, so you never know.

Apparently people in NYC don't wanna see the Bad Reality Reruns channel. It's a fine channel in the morning/afternoon, but at night it reeks worse than moldy cheese.

Of course, TW will probably replace it with something even worse.

You can still get it if you switch to satellite. I have DirecTV & get it. That's the only way I can get it in my area, the local cable company does not carry it.

For my money they could drop it and I would never know as I quit watching it about three years ago.
