James father coming to visit? I would have liked to see more pleasant interaction between them after they had put the past behind them. We only got to see only a little of the pleasant interaction at the very end without any follow up on whether or not they are still in contact with each other. So do u think he should have came back one more time before season 3 ended?

I hate when sitcoms do that.

They have a great episode with a great family guest appearance and you never see it again.

Lots of sitcoms do that and it always bugs me, LOL.

I think they should of at least done a follow up, but it's a sitcom and once all the "drama" is out of the way, what's left to play out?

Honestly I really didn;t see any point of him returning to the show after John Amos was fired. Return for what?-lol

Well, for starters, he should've returned for James' funeral. Secondly, he was the grandfather of JJ, Thelma and Michael, so why wouldn't he visit?

Uh, Solomon, wasn't that the point of your post? You wanted to see James' father return in Season 3. I agreed with you, LOL. But I'm with Brian, James' father could've come for the funeral and he could of also visited the kids, so I think he should've returned anyway, with or without James there.

I feel that since he didn't appear one more time in season 3 and not in the funeral episode, it was no point of him returning to the show at all.

Right, I forgot about that, so I'm saying that since he wasn;t in the funeral episode, who really needed to see him in the Thanksgiving episode? And to top it all off, he never makes any references to james at all in his appearance after the funeral episode

I still feel he was a small essential character to the show. He was the grandfather and should appear from time to time.

But I feel they should have had the character make reference to his son's death since they decided to bring him back.

That I will agree with.

I agree. He wouldn't be filling a role left void by Amos, but he sure would have added a nice touch. Maybe having him stay with the family for a little while.
That "Lena" character I despised. I couldn't stand her, her attitude and basically her big mouth.

He did, when he came back for the first time, he said that he was sorry that he missed the funeral, and Florida said that she missed James so much and they hugged.

but Solomon wishes they had referenced James MORE, not just a sentence and then move on to the next subject. I don't know abt that show, but if someone died in my family, we'd be talking and laughing abt that person and having "memories". They didn't do that on the show.

I think it would've been cute to have James' father reference something that James had said or done. Kinda like: "Remember how mad James got when I came to visit for his birthday..."

I know, but he said that he wished that James dad would have made a reference about his sons death and I was pointing out that he did, when he said that he was sorry for missing the funeral.

if you read Solomon's post before that, he says he wishes James had been referenced after that visit. Like when the grandfather showed up with that sassy broad of his. James was never mentioned there. That's what Solomon wishes. Solomon has referenced this thought before on other threads. That's why I know what he means. He and I think that if you bring in a character that is a close character, like a grandfather, it seems unrealistic he would never mention his son.

I know that in real life people tend to say: "Look at my son, he looks just like his father did at that age. I wish his dad could see him now." Just an example.

Ah, okay, okay. I guess I misread Solomon's initial post. LOL. Got thinks mixed up. I still agree though, lol.

Grandpa Evans never said anything about being sory for missing the funeral-lol

I agree, the writers really could have used Henry again in season 3. It could have made for some nice stories. Who knows, though? Maybe they HAD intended Henry to come back in season 4 THINKING James would still be on the show. I'm not sure how "sudden" Amos' firing was in 1976. That being said, I REALLY would have liked to seen him at the funeral.

Then he acted like he wasn't interested in talking about James, Florida was like-"I miss him so much Henry" And then he was like-"Yeah i know, HEY KIDS!-LOL Maybe he explained why he didn't go to the funeral on the CBS version-lol

Florida should have gotten something from SS along with the kids for James death. Am I wrong on this? They should have gotten enough money to where they could have pooled all of their money together so that they woudn't have had to worry about paying their bills or atleast move.

Only for kids that are under 18. JJ was already an adult. Thelma was what? 17? And it takes time for SS death benefits to start. But yeah, she would at least have received for Michael and herself, until she got married.
