I was just watching the ep where Fonzie introduces Ashley to all of his friends for his friends approval. It got me to thinking. Why did the Fonzie/Ashley relationship end so quickly??? There wasn't even an ep. about it - just an ep. where Fonzie is depressed because of it - the guys take him out to a camp to meet women.
Do you think the writers were originally setting up Fonzie to eventually marry Ashley???
I think that was a good possibility. I think one of the writers said that they didn't want Fonzie to get married because they didn't want him to loose his availability to date (in so many words), but that's exactly what happened when he dated Ashley and only Ashley.
We may never know the answer to this, but I do think that's where they were headed... to have Fonzie eventually put the ring on Ashley's finger.

Since the show was coming close to ending, I would not have minded Fonzie settling down with Ashley or any other woman. I think it was time.
