View Full Version : The Best Song Oscar Award Goes To.....
Ireneparalegal 03-05-2006, 11:25 PM IT'S HARD OUT THERE TO BE A PIMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Academy is really opening their eyes to different style of music. They beat out Dolly Parton, the fave in this category!!!!
James"Thunder"Early 03-05-2006, 11:33 PM I was coming in here to post that, LOL. I was kind of shocked at that myself. The performance was good too.

I was saying to myself, wouldn't it be awesome to see them win just like Eminem did a few years back???? Nahhhhhh, won't happen. Then, when Queen Latifah started smiling and made that laugh, I knew it. Just her face reaction told the whole story. Awesome.

I was getting ready to do the same as well. I was shocked that the song won. Great, now it's hard for a pimp  .... I thought Taraji P. Henson did a good job singing and I liked the song Dolly Parton did.

It might be a start, but The Academy still has a long ways to go.
platinumblondelife 03-06-2006, 07:27 PM I was SO surprised...and really happy.
Mr. Television 03-06-2006, 07:32 PM I was hoping that Dolly would win but after I heard the pimp song, I think they made the right choice. It's so catchy, I still got it going on in my head.
Cactus Jack 03-06-2006, 08:00 PM I was hoping that Dolly would win but after I heard the pimp song, I think they made the right choice. It's so catchy, I still got it going on in my head.

I AN JUST VERY DIDDAPOINTED ABOUT THIS WHOLE THING AND EVERY BODY THOGHT bBBrokBack Mountain woud win HA Crash won.Is everyone in Hollwon dope, weed, mushroom acid,or coke. Probably.Oh Forgot beer.`OK I AM PO THET3SE MAY NOT MAKE sense, but who care.
Ireneparalegal 03-06-2006, 09:48 PM The Academy doesn't vote for "favorites" or what the public likes. They vote for what they like, what they think was artistically done well, it's not a people's choice awards.
As far as the academy opening their eyes to new music Felicity, this wasn't the first time a rap song won for Best Song. Remember, Eminem won a few years back for his song from 8 mile. So, my original post abt the academy opening their eyes (and ears) to new styles of music remains.
Steve M. 03-06-2006, 11:35 PM This choice was political corrrectness run amok! :barf:
felicitylen 03-06-2006, 11:43 PM I forgot that Eminem's song won, but why "Its Hard for a Pimp" song to be nominated and actually win?..That I will never understand.
Mr. Television 03-06-2006, 11:49 PM I think you and Bea have a new theme song

Not really. With ACTORS being able to vote, you have alot of actors who are not white, jewish, stuck-up, close-minded etc.
Besides, one must watch the movie to understand the meaning of the song. It's not just a "rap" song. but it is a rap song at it's best.
felicitylen 03-07-2006, 06:15 PM Even though, I felt like the song shouldn't have won, I think I will finally rent the movie this weekend just to see what the fuss is all about.

U Mad? Three 6 Mafia had a classic with that song, but it wasn't rap at its BEST as some others said.

It's rap at its best when it gets nominated for a Best Oscar song and WINS. That's the best. I don't see Three 6 Mafia having any future hits, this might be like the grammy curse.
Brian Damage 03-07-2006, 09:22 PM Let me just prefice this by saying I thought "In the Deep" should've won for best song.
With that said, I do think there is some validity to what Steve M. said about this win being a little PC. I think the Academy gave this award to the 3 6 Mafia to show themselves as being hip and modern. Is it the best song of 2005? The award says yes, but I think there is a little more to this than just that.

It's the best song of the songs that were nominated. They are not saying out of all the music for 2006. And remember, the songs that get nominated are the final songs from a group of songs. They dwindle it down to maybe four or five. There aren't many ORIGINAL songs anymore in movies.
Brian Damage 03-07-2006, 09:35 PM I know what you're saying, but in my opinion, I think they won the award to show diversity, rather than because they all really felt it was the best song.

I don't think politics had a thing to do with it.

I agree. I am not into that style of music. I love some rap and some hip/hop. I didn't care for any of the songs nominated. But after hearing the words to the song and knowing what the movie is abt, it fit the movie perfectly. It's more than abt a song. It's how it overall made itself work into the movie.

sweetdiggity 04-11-2006, 05:23 PM i was glad it won! I chose it in my Oscar picks! :)
