View Full Version : If you had the chance....

Okay. So, I figured I'd try to get us talking about another topic since ours seem to die out fast. Here's my question to everyone. If you had the chance to change *any* episode (you know re-write a scene or an episode) which one would it be and what would you do to make it better for you?

OR

If you wished the writers added something to an episode, either in the beginning, middle or end, to sort of *complete* the episode (fill in the gaps so to speak), which episode would it be and what would you have liked to have seen happen in it?

I have to think about this one myself. In the meantime, talk amongst the board. (LOL)

Aside from the final episode LOLOL?? That's a dead horse we've beat, so lemme think of another.....

(Three minutes later...) Man, this is tough. There's episodes I didn't like, of course, but moreso because of the whole storyline. Nothing I'd really change except for maybe some Dan-isms that were a little harsh. Like with the homeless mother and son (the kid calls Harry a "pig"), Harry says he heard the kid calling him "pig" all night. And Dan says it was probably because they were sleeping in his alley. Litttttle over the line.

And how Dan so quickly changed his tune toward Vincent Daniels (the dwarf boss he had) was so short-lived as he continued to put him down in other episodes.

Not the best picks but all I could come up with :).

well, in the episode "Dan's Operation", he stated that he didn't want to grow old alone however through the following seasons he never really showed any interest in finding "the one". I think it would have been interesting to mabe see him try and date a girl for more then on episode then maybe realize he doesn't want that just yet. Or maybe his "lost loves" (Patty, Joan) could have lasted for more then one episode to make it a little more believable that he felt more then just lust or greed for either of them. I understand the whole point of Dan's character was that he was a player, I just would have liked to see something that match the "I don't want to grow old alone" line somewhere along the way. I hope this makes sense I'm high on cold medicine right now ;)

I thought about this one myself a bit. I'll give you one of my thoughts for now. Harry found out bits and pieces concerning how his mother ended up in the mental institution. I feel though that he never got the *whole* story. He knew she was abused by her parents. But did Harry ever come in contact with his grandparents? Something eats at me that he never got *full* closure concerning his mother's life and death. How *did* she die? This was an important part of Harry's background story. It would have been interesting for him to have found out from someone else about her life. This would be followed by a visit to her grave to make peace, since he never got that opportunity. I think Harry Anderson would have done a terrific job handling a storyline like that.

Did we ever learn what the 'T' in Harold T. Stone stands for? Might be one of those 'cut in syndication' scenes that I can't remember from 20 years ago but this one's been annoying me since the cable airings.

Also, Harry is owed one girlfriend/fiance. The writers got rid of Margaret to make room for Harry to be with Christine and then made that not work out either so I feel they owe him. All those years and he got one 'long-term' relationship?? I know Margaret wasn't popular but I liked her since Harry really liked her. "Woman of his dreams" and all that. If he couldn't have Christine, the whole mob family Margaret testified against should've been wiped out so she could return to Harry.

No. We never did find out what that "T" stood for in Harry's name. That bothered me too.

I agree with you that Harry needed more than one "long-term" romance. I always felt bad for him. He was a nice guy who got dumped more times than garbage. Something was always wrong with his girlfriends. (rock star, porn star, witch, one-night stand, witness re-location program reporter, co-worker) Good God the man couldn't catch a break. (haha) Hey, maybe Jennifer Black could have come back for awhile if the writers wouldn't set him up with Christine. As for Margaret, I couldn't even like her because Harry did. That character just rubbed me the wrong way.

Yes, or how about Sarah the Nun, or even Lana, engaged? Geez. Now those are two others.

But everyone seemed to have some sort of problem with the opposite gender.

I'm actually curious to see what it would have been like if the ceiling *did* begin to collaspe in Fire? Not that the writers didn't do a great job. They did. Just crossed my mind, that's all.

How about the Wheels of Justice episodes' side story about city and state employees not getting paid? Was that ever resolved in episode II? I remember in the first part the staff was making soup out of Ketchup (Dan), digging for loose change (Mac) etc. But I don't remember Albany ever passing a budget and getting state and city employees paid. Cut in syndication? Memory lapse on my end? Truly not resolved?
