Let's do a fun thread here, just for the heck of it---
What was your favorite special feature on the GI DVD sets? Mine had to be the unaired pilot with the commentary--- great episode, great theme, great commentary, great that Warner dug it up.
What's yours?

I am going to go with the pilot as well. Before I got the DVD I had never seen it before. I know Columbia House had released it and for a while I was thinking of getting it from Ebay before the DVD came out. I am glad Sherwood Schwartz was able to do the commentaries on all three seasons too. "Before the Three Hour Tour" was also interesting on the season 1 set. The Introductions were alright on the last two seasons, but it would have been nice if they had the rest of the cast, but it was great seeing Russell Johnson on it. To be honest, everything was great except "How to Survive on an Island" on season 1 and the awful documentary on season 3.

I just listened to Sherwood's commentary on "The Producer" and I thought he sounded like a bitter old man when he got towards the end explaining how GI went off the air. It's been 40 years man, let it go already. It sounds like he still takes the cancellation so personally. Also the part where Gilligan is singing "I ask to be or not to be" and Sherwood says "He's not a good singer. . .but he wanted to do it. . ." Ouch! That was blunt. And almost a little condescending, don't you think? I didn't think Bob sang badly anyway, if he had the right training he could have had a pleasant tenor voice.
Just my thoughts,

I didn't think he was acting bad, he was just explaining how the show ended. He sounded just fine to me. I belive one of Bob Denvers first movies he was in he has to sing. I forgot which one it was though. I think it was the one that Tina Louise is in as well.

Yes, it was "For Those Who Think Young" which was released shortly before GI was on the air. I've never seen it, but would love to. :( I did hear Bob's song "Ho Daddy" on a podcast of "Lost Discs Radio". I thought it was very cool.

I have to agree that all of the extra features were ok except for the incredibly stupid and painful "Gilligan's Island Survival Guide" and the "documentary" on the Season 3 collection which was really a commercial for "the Real GI."
I really wish that Bob and Dawn had joined Russell and Sherwood for an interview-style featurette, but, for whatever reason, they elected not to participate. Does anyone know why??? Maybe Bob was already sick?
What I miss most were the extras that were just there for the using----for instance, a blooper reel would have been nice, some of the cast reunions that took place, maybe a longer version of the home movies they showed at the end of "Surviving GI."
What I'm most grateful for, though, is to have the whole series on DVD. Back in the Dark Ages, I spent several months recording them off of TV to VHS. Maybe I was ahead of my time
