How far is Smallville from Metroplolis. I saw a first season episode the other night where Lana and Clark climbed a windmill in Smallville and they could see Metropolis in the distance. That made it seem like Smallville was just on the outskirts of Metropolis. I always assumed it was a fair distance.

According to Superman's bio, in DC's AMAZING WORLD OF DC COMICS magazine
(#17, March 1977): Smallville is located in the state of Maryland and Metropolis
is located in the adjacent state of Delaware. So it is conceivable that the two
towns are not that great a distance apart.

They would have to be fairly close for Lana to not be questioning Clark how he can run back and forth from Smallville to Metropolis all the time...and Chloe and Lana travel it as well. So yeah, the two would have to be close. As for on Lois & Clark...I think they had a much further distance between the two. His parents were always taking flights into Metropolis on that show.

When a licensed property like Superman is transferred from one media to another, liberties are often taken. This sounds like one of those instances.

On Smallville it's a 3 hour drive there and a 3 hour drive back.

Well, the 3 hour drive sounds like what I had in mind. At average speed limits, that would put them around 150 miles apart. That's certainly not in viewing distance. I certainly can't see any large cities that I live 3 hours from.

Yeah SV changed it so that Metropolis is in Kansas and people seem to get to Metropolis really fast, even the ones without Super Powers

Yeah, that's what I was gonna say. I guess I always just assumed that Metropolis was on the East Coast...or at least somewhere in the east near the ocean.

Maryland? How odd. I always thought Smallville was in Kansas in all mediums. Guess I was wrong.
