A grand jury investigation is under way for the Jill Behrman case. Jill Behrman, whose disappearance was the focus of an UM segment in 2001, was the Indiana University student who vanished in 2000. Her remains were found in 2003. As mentioned in the article I found (see the link below), more than 90 people are being subpoened. It also says that although the grand jury is set to last two months, it's possible for it to go as long as two years.

I found another article related to the Jill Behrman case. It's from last month, but it mentions that Grammy Award winner Sylvia McNair has a song called "Hide and Seek," as part of an effort to raise money for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The Jill Behrman case influenced the song.

Yes I heard about this on my local news last night. They mentioned that two men were being dna tested in regards to her case. It makes me wonder if Jill Behrman was possibly raped otherwise why would they be testing possible suspects's dna. Anyone else have any info on this?

Three mentioned in Behrman report have had experience with legal system

Three names have surfaced during the nearly three-year-long investigation into the disappearance and presumed death of Bloomington resident and Indiana University student Jill Behrman.

None of the three has been charged in connection with the case. Their names are included in records that have been passed from investigators to the Monroe County prosecutor's office.

All three have criminal records and are currently jailed on charges not related to the Behrman case.

Uriah Clouse

Uriah Clouse, identified as a suspect early in the investigation, currently is incarcerated in the Monroe County Jail after being charged with the rape of a Bloomington woman in May 2001, a year after Behrman's disappearance.

Clouse, 27, has a lengthy record of criminal charges.

Among the charges is a rape conviction that resulted in a six-year pri-son sentence. But he was released early, after his conviction was overturned by the Indiana Court of Appeals.

Other charges, some of which were dismissed, include battery, intimidation, confinement, assault, operating while intoxicated, reckless endangerment, child molesting, battery of a police officer, battery with bodily waste and numerous public intoxication and illegal consumption charges.

Clouse first caught public attention as a juvenile in 1992, when he was charged with the battery of a gay man at Griffy Lake.

Along with frequent criminal charges, Clouse has displayed a violent temper and an apparent lack of respect for authority. Following a 1996 arrest on illegal consumption charges, Clouse threatened the arresting police officer, according to court records.

"He repeatedly threatened to kill me, to tear my head off, to rape and or kill my grandmother, mother, wife and children," the officer reported. "He stated he has been in prison before and is not afraid of anything the system can do to him."

In 1997, after a fight with his girlfriend, Clouse punched out a window and injured his arm.

"He was bleeding profusely when emergency crews arrived. A fire truck was called to wash blood from the sidewalk," The Herald-Times reported.

Clouse is set to go on trial late this month for the pending rape charge. A Bloomington woman alleges that Clouse, an acquaintance, raped her in her home. In the probable-cause affidavit for the case, one of the victim's friends recalls that she asked Clouse what he was going to do the day of the alleged rape.

"His response was, 'Cause some trouble.'"

In the same document, the victim reported Clouse returned to her home on several occasions. She eventually told him if she ever saw him at the home again she would call the police.

The affidavit says that she "did not feel this was a deterrent, as she stated Uriah Clouse is not afraid of the police."

Wendy Owings

Wendy Owings, 29, has been charged with offenses ranging from public intoxication and public indecency to check fraud, theft, robbery, burglary, aiding in child molesting, dealing in controlled substances and battery. She has been convicted of battery, forgery, theft and public intoxication.

She currently is an inmate in the Monroe County Jail.

Owings has been suspected of being involved with the Behrman case since the early days of the investigation.

In July 2000, scarcely a month after Behrman was last seen, police and FBI agents took Owings for a polygraph test to find out what she knew about Behrman's disappearance. According to court records, she asked once if she could go into the alley and smoke a cigarette.

While in the alley, court records say, Owings boasted to an FBI agent that she had smuggled marijuana into the jail by concealing it in a tampon. She was then charged with trafficking with an inmate for the incident, but the charge was dismissed a few months later.

During previous stays in jail, Owings frequently wrote letters to the judges involved in her cases, pleading for early release. In one letter from May 1998, she wrote: "In four months I haven't broken a single law." Four months later, she asked again. "I would like a chance to prove I can remain a drug-free, law-abiding person."

On May 17, 2000 — two weeks before Behrman was reported missing — Owings disappeared from Amethyst House, a drug rehabilitation center. According to court records, "her whereabouts were unknown." She was taken back into custody on June 30, 2000, a month after Behrman was last seen.

Alisha Sowders

Alisha Sowders, 23, is currently in the Monroe County Jail awaiting trial on two counts of felony armed robbery. She also is charged with violating terms of her probation.

Sowders was arrested on one robbery charge in 2001 after police said she tied up and robbed two 19-year-old men at gunpoint.

According to court records, Sowders entered an apartment armed with a handgun, ordered one of the men onto his bed, hit him and yelled profanities at him. The affidavit says she then dragged him into the living room at gunpoint, tied him and his roommate up and ransacked the apartment after threatening to kill them if they called police.

Another armed robbery charge involved Sowders and three others, including Wendy Owings. Police say the group robbed a man at his residence on Tapp Road in November 2001.

"battery with bodily waste" ... What the hell is that?! I am going with Uriah Clouse on this one. What a scum. The fact that law enforcement went out of their way to write a letter on him ... I'm thinking this is one sick individual. if they have ANY circumstantial evidence linking him with Ms. Behrman I would focus on just this dreg.
