View Full Version : A Question for the Women angelbluez 02-22-2006, 07:05 PM This is a question for women over the age of 21. Would you date a man who has a great job BUT still lives home with his parents? *MIBabe03* 02-22-2006, 07:10 PM It depends on the situation I guess. I mean, I'm almost 21 and I'm dating a man who's 27, who's mom lives with him. He's the one making the most money, so basically he's supporting her, and not the other way around. He's, moving with me up to MI in August, and she's not coming with him. angelbluez 02-22-2006, 07:21 PM That's understandable if his mom lives with him. But what about the men who are just living at home just to live at home. Isn't there a time in a persons life when they should move out on their own. Chocoholic 02-22-2006, 07:42 PM It depends. If the man is living with his mother to support her and take care of her because she's old ill, then I would have no problem with that. I would think he is a loving and caring son to take care of the woman who cared for him for so many years. Or maybe he's just saving money for a place of his own. However, if the parent-son relationship is a lot like the Barone family relationship on Everybody Loves Raymond, then I'm running far, far away from him. It's one thing to move in and care for your elderly parents, but it's another thing to expect your parents to support you when you are fully capable of learning to support yourself. The umbilical cord needs to be severed eventually. Personally, I couldn't date or marry a guy who refuses to take care of himself. Brieannas21 02-22-2006, 09:15 PM It depends. I totally agree with you, at some point you have to start taking care of yourself. You can't dsepend on Mom and Dad forever. Mijada 02-22-2006, 09:41 PM A few years back I was dating this guy who was 36 who still lived at home. He had a decent job and his parents were healthy and had decent jobs as too but this guy had never had any desire to move out. He told me that he was just really close to his parents. I was a bit leary about it at first but I decided to give the relationship a chance. A big mistake on my part. This guy was the biggest mamas boy. He would cut our dates short because he had to be home for dinner. I was like "How old are you, 12?" His mom still did his laundry for him and made his lunch. He thought there was something wrong with me because I moved out on my own while in my early 20's. I would tell him that's what you're supposed to do when you grow up. A few months into the relationship he finally started talking about buying his own house but he was afraid to tell his mother about it because he didn't want to upset her and make her cry. I was like "You're 36 years old for crying out loud!" We broke up shortly after that and I never dated anyone else who lived at home and I would not reccommend it to anybody. I see nothing wrong with having a close relationship to ones parents, in fact I really envy it as my relationship with my own parents isn't good. But if one is in their 30's and they still prefer to live at home there is a problem somewhere. Janice 02-22-2006, 09:46 PM But if one is in their 30's and they still prefer to live at home there is a problem somewhere. Without a doubt. I moved out on my own when I was 20, and I had a great relationship with my parents. I wouldn't want to date a guy who still lived with his mother/parents. I agree if they're not well, that's another story, but there's nothing worse than a Mama's boy. My husband had a bit of that in him when I met him, but I knocked it out of him but quick. If he's a really nice guy and makes good money then yeah! it doesnt matter where he lives maybe he just wants to stay with his parents to keep an eye out for them and help them with bills or whatever. If he's a nice guy, and has great personalty i'd date him. Give him a chance.... Im 26 and i still live with my parents, my bf lives with his dad and he's 29 and a nice guy!!!!!!!! Nothing wrong w/leaving with parents these days. Apartments are expensive these days. MsOrange 02-23-2006, 09:39 AM This is a question for women over the age of 21. Would you date a man who has a great job BUT still lives home with his parents? are you the female solomon? the wording of that questions totally reminded me of him. Moonlight Lady 02-23-2006, 11:36 AM If the guy made a good living and we had a great relationship, then it wouldn't matter to me. Just because a person over 30 lives at home doesn't mean they can't be independent. :) Janice 02-23-2006, 11:48 AM If the guy made a good living and we had a great relationship, then it wouldn't matter to me. Just because a person over 30 lives at home doesn't mean they can't be independent. :) If a guy has the means to live on his own, and his parents are healthy, I think something is not quite right if he still lives at home. He could be a Mama's boy. They exist, and they can be nightmares if you date or marry one. My stepdaughter dated one before, and he would call his mother at least three times a day...even while they were on vacation. These men often put their mothers ahead of their wives and children. Dear Abby and Ann Landers are full of letters from wives fed up with dominating mother-in-laws and their spineless husbands who allow their mothers to call the shots. Most men want to be on their own. Sometimes, it's the men who have issues...social anxiety or they like someone handling their responsibilities (laundry, cooking, roof over their head, etc). No matter what the reason, I personally would never date a man who lives at home as an adult. TVFactFan 02-23-2006, 11:56 AM I just think women want to much anyway, but I do agree if you are my age then u should have your place. A man could be drop dead gorgeous and have all the stuff listed above, but if he has an ugly personality (e.g. cruel, abusive) Who needs that. I mean, I still live at home, so that'd be kind of hypocritical of me, no? And hey, if he has such a great job and is living at home, maybe he's saving a lot of money. dawsongirl 02-23-2006, 03:14 PM If the guy made a good living and we had a great relationship, then it wouldn't matter to me. Just because a person over 30 lives at home doesn't mean they can't be independent. :) Exactly. I mean, nice guys are hard to come by. Sorry, but I don't give a rat's ass where he lives as long as it's not under a bridge. If he treats me good, then I'm happy. Moonlight Lady 02-23-2006, 04:01 PM Yes. I mean, I still live at home, so that'd be kind of hypocritical of me, no? I don't think you're being hypocritical. I still live at home so I wouldn't pass up dating a really nice guy for doing the same. nice guys are hard to come by Yeah, it seems like they're a rarity. TVFactFan 02-23-2006, 04:08 PM Well women push nice men to the side all the time because of what they don't have-lol Mijada 02-23-2006, 04:28 PM I just think women want to much anyway, but I do agree if you are my age then u should have your place. He's tall and slender. I never much went for those big muscular guys anyway. As long as he's not grossly overweight or anything an average or slim build is just fine with me. Moonlight Lady 02-23-2006, 04:30 PM Well women push nice men to the side all the time because of what they don't have-lol Yeah that sucks that there are women, in the world, who are like that. :( Mijada 02-23-2006, 04:39 PM If a guy has the means to live on his own, and his parents are healthy, I think something is not quite right if he still lives at home. Exactly, the guy i dated was just like that. He would tell his mother every little thing. I don't even want to imagine what it would have been like had we gotten married. These girls who have never had the experience of dating a 30 something year old guy who still lives at home need to take advice from people who have. It's NOT a good idea. There are exceptions I'm sure but most of the time it's not a good thing. These guys may be financially independent because they are able to save more money but they still have an emotional dependency to their parents which is not good. And who's to say that they are going to know how to manage their money out on their own in the real world without their parents always there to guide them? TVFactFan 02-23-2006, 05:01 PM My husband is all of these things minus the athletic build. He's tall and slender. I never much went for those big muscular guys anyway. As long as he's not grossly overweight or anything an average or slim build is just fine with me. What's wrong with a overweight guy if he has a CUTE FACE? TVFactFan 02-23-2006, 05:03 PM Yeah that sucks that there are women, in the world, who are like that. :( That's why I have no interest in dating just stress relief-lol Mijada 02-23-2006, 05:16 PM What's wrong with a overweight guy if he has a CUTE FACE? It wouldn't bother me if he was a little overweight just not grossly overweight say like 400 lbs, especially if the guy isn't doing anything to try and lose the weight. It's not just about it being unnattractive but it's very unhealthy as well. Had my husband been just a little overweight instead of slender I'm sure I still would have fallen in love with him. marmalade 02-23-2006, 05:25 PM No, I definetly would not. I'm with you on that, If a man is 30 and still living at home with his parents. And his parents are in great health then there shouldn't be a reason why he's still at home. There's something that's not right with the guy, there's a few lights that's not on upstairs LOL.
