View Full Version : Sony is just plain dumb...
TV DVD Fan 02-21-2006, 06:54 PM THE NANNY- SEASON ONE had a list price of 29.98 and had some DECENT extras on it; now, along comes season two with a huge price increase; now this season two set's list price tops 40 dollars! AND NOT ONE FREAKIN' SPECIAL FEATURE TO GO WITH IT!
What the hell is wrong with those *******s, they really gotta pull their act together. This just has me pissed; one of TV's greatest shows of the 90's with a pisspoor DVD treatment. Sony, if you're out there, wake up!

Chelsea 02-22-2006, 03:33 AM Dumb? From a business perspective (which is ultimately THE perspective that matters) it makes perfect sense. Set the introductory season at a low price point, attracting blind buys, then raise subsequent sets price, once you've got the core purchase base set in.
Season 1s usually have a lot more blind buys that later seasons regardless of price, so it makes more sense to encourage THAT season.

I never heard of a 'blind buy' and that's a good point. Take the case when I bought S1 of "Sanford and Son" around late 2002 I picked up at my local Wal-Mart for around $14 and change. I guess I could say the same for "Good Times" S1 probably around that said price as well. Other seasons of S&S and GT usually around $24-$29. Fast forward to 2006 I saw the price of S&S S1 for about $22-$24 and other places like Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. Same for "Good Times".
TV DVD Fan 02-22-2006, 03:07 PM What kind of sense does that make? Take MTM, the first season went for 50 bucks and then season 2 came and it had a 20 dollar price drop from the first set AND the first season's LP also changed to 30! And season two had BETTER extras. THE NANNY SEASON ONE had extras and a 30 dollar list price; second season- crappy set, higher list price? Who in their right mind condones that? I certainly don't, that's a load of ****. Those money-hungry bastards can go scratch their ass, if they think they can get MORE money out of us from a venture that don't cost them more than 10 cents a set to produce to begin with.

Pat It is never sold at the list price in the first place - it will probably be under 1 of the many Sony sales. It makes perfect sense, nobody likes price increases but ofcourse they are money-hungry its just buisness. I think 10 cents is a little extreme, the disc probably costs more than THAT and music licensing and transferring certainly costs a lot. An average song costs around $10,000-$15,000 to license.
TV DVD Fan 02-22-2006, 07:04 PM It don't cost them as much as we think, they are pulling the wool over our eyes... a relative convinced me of this last Summer. Music besides, how much does it cost to pull an episode out of a vault? TN didn't even have that much music in it. I think it's ridiculous, and I will never back off from this stand. I will still probably end up buying the set anyways, though.

Mister Ed 02-22-2006, 09:33 PM Another reason Sony is dumb..
Fantasy Island! They charged 50 bucks CDN for this set! It had a 4-disc count.
Bewitched had a 5 disc count and was 15 dollars CDN cheaper.
TV DVD Fan 02-22-2006, 09:36 PM Finally, somebody agrees with me!

Marvo301 03-11-2006, 04:38 AM I'm po'd with Sony because they released the first two seasons of The Partridge Family and got me all excited about owning the entires series. Now there's no sign of seasons three and four after I've invested financially(and emotionally) in the first two sets. Thanks Sony!! (don't you know a sarcasm when you read one)
