I'd say it was different in that with Whitley and Dwayne finally married, the show focused on other storylines. I wouldn't call it a different show, but there definitely were some significant changes ion season 6. I'll say one episode, the one with Billy Dee Williams and Leslie Uggams felt like a spinoff, or a set-up for a spinoff series.

I wouldn't really say so. With Dwayne and Whitley married and no longer students it was only natural that they focus on the undergraduates. Plus Dawnn Lewis was gone (and quite frankly not really missed by me). Kim, Ron and Freddie were still a significant part of the series though. Truthfully a show set in a school that focuses on the students instead of the faculty can only run for but so long. They did a very good job in keeping it going as long as they did.

I think that episode was a pilot that NBC ordered for a potential spin-off of the show since it was really time for the main characters to move on. I thought it would have did well for a few seasons if they gave it a good time slot.

in 92 it ranked #17 so in 93 I would bet that it was lower I wouldn't say the mid 50's. But it was their last season so I doubt that they really cared all that much.

The show wast the best educational black show to date! I only wish it stayed on a little bit longer. But the show was and always will be something that needed to be aired on television.

Two sources, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and V-103 radio in Atlanta. Jasmine Guy was in town last year promoting her book and they asked her about what really happened in the last season of ADW. She simply said the ratings fell to the 50's and lack of promotion by the network.

Overall, I love ADW. But I didn't like the very 1st season as much when Lisa Bonet was on it & I didn't like the end season as much when it brought on the new group of college students: Terrell, Charmaine, Jada Pinkett, etc.

I used to follow the ratings back then and it did fall into the 50's. I was shocked at how low they fell. And responding to Brie at the beginning of the year, they had no idea it was going to be their last season. It was supposed to jump start the new lineup of must see tv shows but except for Cheers the whole lineup crashed.

I vagely remember Malcolm Jamal-Warner's show, Here and Now that came on Saturdays and cancelled by midseason.

That tells you how far NBC had fallen because Martin was not a highly rated show yet it destroyed Rhythm & Blues . R&B was an awful show . ADW should have been able to outdo the simpsons or at the very least compete with them. It fell from 17th place to the mid 50's. The Simpsons ended up tied for 30th that year. I got the schedule right in front of me. Besides The Simpsons ADW's competition was Top Cops on CBS and Delta on ABC. Both of those shows weren't rating giants. Besides ADW and R&B the rest of NBC's lineup was Cheers which ended up ranked tied for 8th that year and then Wings which finished tied with The Simpsons at #30. That was a big drop.

If you watch the whole last 2 seasons you will see that Lena wasn't Ghetto at all, She was well educated and she had depth. I didn't see anything wrong with her character, she just had her own style and taste in clothing.
